The Rochester Americans won their second straight in two nights against the Grand Rapids Griffins 5-3 with Dylan Hunter leading the way with two goals and three assists on the night. He tallied his 4th and 5th goals of the season and now has 10 points for the year. He also scored the game winning goal.
Hunter is beginning to look like the player people would remember from the London Knights where in the 2005-2006 season he had 117 points.
Clarke MacArthur scored his 7th goal of the season. Marek Zagrapan scored his 6th goal of the season. Mark Mancari had three assists for the night and now has twelve points for the year.
Martin Lojek got his third goal of the season on an empty net shot that went almost the length of the ice at 19:06 in the 3rd period. At first this goal was said to be unassisted but after further review it was clear that Hunter had knocked the puck to Lojek.
Dan Collins took out his recent lack of playing time on Brad Ference in the first period of the game.
Adam Dennis had 32 saves on 35 shots in his second great showing this weekend. Let’s hope he can continue this streak into the Hamilton game on November 3rd and into next week.
The Americans really need to start being more careful with penalties taken. With sloppy penalties taken like a too many men on the ice in the second period, the Amerks gave the Griffins 18 minutes with a man up.Â
Marc-Andre Gragnani took an extra two minutes, after being called for a tripping penalty, for unsportsmanlike conduct when he threw a small hissy fit and slammed his stick on the boards a little too close to the ref.
The Griffins would have been able to take advantage of all these opportunities from the Amerks if it wasn’t for the fact that they had 14 penalties in the game. Most of these game while they were on the power play, wiping out any advantage they had on the ice.
The Amerks finish their three game weekend tomorrow night at home again against the defending Calder Cup Champions, the Hamilton Bulldogs. The game begins at 7:35 PM.Â
The game tomorrow will be the third meeting of eight the two teams will have this season. Expect a heated game between these division rivals.
