Skating With The Players At Blue Cross Arena

December 11, 2007 - By

The Rochester Americans hosted the annual season ticket holder skate with the players event at Blue Cross Arena on Monday night.

After a rough few games on the ice, it was a great chance for everyone to have some fun.  The team opened up the ice to all season ticket holders to bring their skates and spend time hanging out with the players.  Everyone had the chance to talk to their favorite players and get some autographs.

The benches and penalty boxes were also open where many fans took pictures, and you could hear parents telling children that going into the penalty box isn’t something to be proud of.

The Rochester Americans provide a number of opportunities for fans to hang out and meet players off of the ice, if you’d like to be able to take part in this unique experiene then start saving some money to get season tickets for next season.

Mike Weber Suspended for Three Games

December 10, 2007 - By

Mike Weber has been suspended for the next three games following an incident Sunday night in which referee Francois St. Laurent accussed Weber of trying to shoot the puck at him.

The AHL is going to review the play further which could do anything from shorten to lengethn the suspension.

A recap of the incident from Kevin O in the Democrat and Chronicle:

The play occurred with 25 seconds left in the second period, just four seconds after the Senators had scored a power-play goal with Weber serving his second of two minors.

St. Laurent called Weber for roughing, then tacked on an unsportsmanlike conduct minor when the defenseman yapped back.

Weber came out of the penalty box after Josh Hennessy’s goal at 19:31 and stayed on the ice for the final shift of the period. The Senators were ahead 4-1.

Defense partner Martin Lojek passed across the blue line to Weber, who looked to pass but instead banked the puck high off the glass.

St. Laurent immediately stopped play and motioned for Weber to leave.

Said Weber: “The linesman grabbed me, and I said, ‘What for?’ and he said, ‘You shot the puck at him.’ I said, ‘Excuse [...]Read More

Third Straight Loss Heading into Long Strench

December 10, 2007 - By

The Amerks lost their third straight by the final score of 4-3 against the Binghamton Senators on Sunday night in front of an announced crowd of 5,488 fans at Blue Cross Arena.

The Senators scored three goals in the second period to put the score at 4-1 and the Amerks weren’t able to catch up.

We may as well start with some highlights of the game, Mark Mancari had 2 power play goals, Marek Zagrapan scored his team leading 9th goal of the season, and Clark MacArthur had 3 assists.

In the third period Drew Larman made an outstanding save diving through the crease to stop a shot headed into the net.

The Amerks did play a strong third period getting 12 shots on net and scoring two goals, but it was too little too late.

The Senators game winning goal was scored on the power play after Mike Weber was sent to the box for roughing and unsportmans like conduct after he shot the puck down the ice after the whistle had blown.  The Amerks did manage to burn off 3 minutes and 47 seconds before the puck went into the net.  Another game and another undisciplined penalty that turned out [...]Read More

December 8, 2007 - By

The Amerks lost to the first place Toronto Marlies on Friday night by the final score of 5-2.  The turning point in the game came half way through the second period when the Amerks had a goal disallowed due to goalie interfence, moments later the Marlies scored to make it a 4-1 game.

Simon Gamache of the Marlies scored the first goal of the game early in the first period on the power play, Dylan Hunter had been sent to the box for holding.

It was an even game during the first period as as each team put 9 shots on goal and the Amerks were holding down the fort competing for the tying goal heading into the second period.

At 2:57 of the second period Mike Weber sent a great pass to Peter Aston who shot the puck at the net and Anthony Stewart tipped it in to the net for his eight goal of the season to tie the game at 1-1.

Staffan Kronwall scored on a power play for the Marlies at 9:15 of the second period, followed by Kris Newbury only 11 seconds later which made it a 3-1 game.

The existence, financial stability, ownership and even the NHL affiliate of the Rochester Americans is all up in the air right now. A lot of what has been going on is “he said, she said,” and all sorts of politics. I thought I’d take some time to start at the beginning and work up to where we’re at right now.
