Mark Mancari is representing the Rochester Americans this weekend in the AHL All-Star game and skills challenge in Binghamton.  This evening was the skills challenge where he set a new AHL record in the Rbk O-Stick Hardest Shot challenge with a 102.8 mph shot.  His first shot was recorded at 96.8 mph.

By comparison, Zdeno Chara of the Boston Bruins won the same competition in the NHL on Saturday with a 103.1 mph shot.  Second place in the NHL challenge was Vinny Lecavalier of the Lightning at 101.9.

Kurtis Foster held the previous AHL record at 101 mph when he played for the Chicago Wolves in 2003.

In the Toyota Breakaway Relay challenge he had a breakway against goaltender Jimmy Howard from Grand Rapids, he took a wrist shot aiming at the top corner glove side of the net but the puck went too high.

You can view a video of Mark Mancari in both challenges on YouTube (as of 01/27/08 11pm it’s still processing, so check back later if you’re trying to view it right away).

The All-Star game itself will be played on Monday January 28th at 7pm.  You can watch the game live on [...]Read More

Monsters Scare Amerks Out of Cleveland

January 26, 2008 - By Keith Wozniak

The Amerks ended the first period with a 1-0 lead but as the story of the season goes that lead disappeared in the second, the Monsters went on to win 7-2.

David Brine scored the Amerks first goal as he knocked in a shot from Mike Weber who was at the point.  The Amerks also had three power play opportunities in the first period but failed to produce on any of them.  They also managed to stay out of the penalty box.

After the first period it appeared as if it was going to be another close game, but we should’ve known better than to expect a decent game two nights in a row.  The shots appear as if the game was even, but the Monsters were skating circles around the Amerks for the last two periods.

The second goal by Dylan Hunter was his 9th of season which made it a 3-2 game in favor of the Monsters.  As Mark Mancari was tied up crossing the blue line he got the pass over to Hunter who put the puck in the net from the top of the face off circle.  The was the last offense we really saw [...]Read More

Amerks Lose in Shootout After Being Ahead 3-0

January 26, 2008 - By Keith Wozniak

The Amerks led 3-0 after the end of the first period, but fell asleep during the second and allowed the Lake Erie Monsters to score three goals to tie the game and lead to a shootout.  Jamie Lundmark of the Monsters scored the only goal in the shootout to give the Monsters the win.

Stefan Meyer scored the first two goals of the game within a span of 2 mins and 19 seconds, they were his 15th and 16th goals of the season.  He had a chance in the second to get the hat trick but the pass from Dylan Hunter took a bad bounce off of his stick.

Patrick Kaleta made his presence back in Rochester known as he was throwing hits all over the ice all game.  It was great to see that even after a long stint in the NHL he’s still willing to put in a great effort for the Amerks.  The same can’t be said for many players when they get sent down.

The biggest problem the Amerks have had all season is managing to play a full 60 minutes of hockey.  That was the issue yet again tonight as they had what [...]Read More

Full Roster Tonight; Mancari to All-Star Game

January 25, 2008 - By Keith Wozniak

After being short on players due to illness over the past week and a half, the Amerks will have a full roster tonight as they see the return of Clarke MacArthur, Patrick Kaleta, Tanner Glass, and Anthony Stewart.

Mark Mancari has been added to the AHL All-Star game this weekend to represent the Amerks and Team Canada. MacArthur was originally selected to the All-Star game but will be rejoining the Sabres on Monday which is why Mancari was picked.

It’s a surprising move by the Sabres to actually send MacArthur to the Amerks for just two games, he has proven his worth for the Sabres.  Hopefully these players will put as much effort into playing for a last place team in the AHL as they have in the NHL trying to prove there worth up there.  If that happens, it isn’t too far fetched to have a two game winning streak after this weekend.

Mancari, a third-year right winger, has 13 goals, 22 assists and 35 points in 47 games.

MacArthur has scored 5 goals, 4 assists and 9 points in 21 games with the Sabres. He was the Amerks leading scorer before his recall (11-19-30 in 26 AHL games).
