Sekera, Kaleta, Weber, Plante, Beaverson

April 6, 2008 - By

Patrick Kaleta, Andrej Sekera, and Mike Weber were all returned to the Amerks in what could be the last transaction ever between the two teams.  Kaleta played Sunday against the Crunch, Weber was given the night off.  Andrej Sekera did not rejoin the Amerks though as he joined Team Slovakia in the World Championships.

As previously reported, Tyler Plante also rejoined the Amerks after filling the spot of backup goalie for the Florida Panthers in there last game of the season.

Luke Beaverson was released from his ATO.  He’s still property of the Florida Panthers and we can probably expect to see him back next season.

Mike Weber Back in Rochester

April 6, 2008 - By

Mike Weber has pretty much guaranteed himself a spot on the Sabres roster for the 08/09 season, until then he has returned to Rochester, hopefully to finish out the season, or to at least accept his Man of the Year award.  Here’s a great hit he rebounded from on Saturday in Boston.

Another Late Penalty Costs Amerks

April 6, 2008 - By

The Rochester Americans couldn’t hold the Grand Rapids Griffins when a late penalty by Adam Dennis gave the Griffins a power play opportunity that they capitalized on, allowing the go ahead goal to take the lead 3-2 in the game with less than five minutes left.

Two games in two nights the Amerks have taken undisciplined penalties with the score tied late in the third period which has led to losses.  Many things have gone wrong this season, that being one of the many.

The Griffins scored the first goal of the game short handed, an AHL-worst 19 short-handed goals allowed, when Franklin MacDonald was caught up at the blue line which allowed the Garrett Stafford to skate almost untouched, receive a pass from Jamie Tardif, and put it past Adam Dennis.

Marek Zagrapan scored the Amerks first goal of the game on the power play, his 17th of the season.  Franklin MacDonald had taken a hard shot from the blueline, Zagrapan picked up the rebound and easily put it in the net.

The Griffins second goal of the game was scored by Tyler Redenbach who poked it into the net as Adam Dennis was trying to cover up the rebound.  It didn’t [...]Read More

Plante Recalled; Janosz Signed

April 6, 2008 - By

Tyler Plante was recalled for the Florida Panthers last game of the season on Saturday.  Plante should be back for Sundays game and the remainder of the season.  Bob Janosz (current goalie coach) was signed to a PTO as the backup goalie.  A sure sign of how the season as gone as the goalie coach is our backup, why hasn’t Jason Cipolla suited up yet?

Amerks Can't Make It Four Straight In Syracuse

April 5, 2008 - By

The Rochester Americans lost in the final minute of the game against the Syracuse Crunch last night.  They have now lost the last eight games played against the Crunch.

The Amerks scored first when Anthony Stewart scored fresh off being benched on Sunday.  His 13th goal was scored at 8:29.  Stewart was clearly trying to show all night that he doesn’t want to be watching the game from the bench any more this season.

Syracuse took advantage of a bogus powerplay when Marc Methot scored.  Stefan Meyer was in the box for holding even though a Crunch player was squeezing Meyer’s hand in his armpit.

Jordan Henry got a quick tripping penalty in the second period.  Kirill Starkov scored to make the score 2-1 at 2:41.

Less than two minutes later, Rochester native, Derek Whitmore scored his first professional goal at 4:09 to tie the game back up 2-2.

The rest of the second period had both teams in the penalty box a few times with no scoring happening.

Only 1:37 into the 3rd period, Mark Mancari was hooked in the Amerks’ zone but, he was also called for diving.  This seems to be a call the Amerks are getting a lot [...]Read More

The Race to Stay Out of Last Place

April 4, 2008 - By

As the season winds down and many teams around the American Hockey League are scrambling for points in the final games to make the playoffs, the Rochester Americans are hoping to finish the last seven games strong to stay out of last place.

The Amerks are currently at 56 points, trailing the Lowell Devils and Norfolk Admirals each with 59 points.  The Amerks and Devils each have seven games left, the Admirals have six.  The Amerks are currently on a three game winning streak.

The biggest obstacle in the way of the Amerks is there schedule.  Three games remain against the Syracuse Crunch, the first is tonight in Syracuse.  The Crunch have not lost a game in regulation since February 18th.  In the season series the Amerks have only won two out of nine games played, both wins came in October.

The Grand Rapids Griffins are one of a few teams the Amerks have had success all season against, five of the Amerks 23 wins all season have come against the Griffins, the two teams have played seven games.  The two teams play on Saturday April 5th at 7:35pm at Blue Cross Arena.

The Hamilton Bulldogs are another team the Amerks have had a [...]Read More

David Jarram Signs ATO With Amerks

April 3, 2008 - By

Right Wing David Jarram signed an ATO with the Amerks yesterday.  He has 11 goals and 7 assists for 18 points in the OHL this season.  Let’s hope he can make the impact that Tommy Goebel did in his short time in Rochester.

Tommy Goebel Released From ATO

April 2, 2008 - By

Forward Tommy Goebel was released from his ATO today.  In five games with the Rochester Americans Goebel scored two goals and three assists for five points.  With five points in five games, the Amerks should be interested in giving Goebel a long term look dispite his size.

Four Recent Signings

April 2, 2008 - By

Here’s a few more recent transactions over the past few days, we’re a few days behind schedule around these parts.

04/01/08
Jason Garrison:
Signed a two-year deal with the Florida Panthers.

Don’t think Garrison should spend too much money on sunblock, though, what with the winters in Rochester being what they are and all.

In all seriousness, Garrison sounds like a solid signing, a character guy who — to coin a JM phrase — be a good pro. And, it seems like he has some grit, coming back from a broken leg to play in the postseason for UMD (which is not short for University of North Dakota).  Source / Hockey DB Stats

Andrew Sweetland:
SUNRISE, Fla.  Florida Panthers General Manager and Head Coach Jacques Martin announced today that the club has agreed to terms with free agent college prospect F Andrew Sweetland on an entry level contract.

Andrew is a player that we identified a few years ago and have followed his progress closely, and he participated in our development camp last year, said Martin. He is a player that posses good size, speed, skill and hockey sense. He will have an [...]Read More
