Mancari Saves The Day, Card Injured
With the time winding down to the Amerks entering the record books, this time for longest scoring drought in AHL history, Mark Mancari let go of a shot that broke through for a goal.
With that, the Amerks once again avoided being put in the record books for all the wrong reasons. Their scoring drought lasted 252:09 until Mancari scored his PP goal at 7:47 of the 3rd period. The only team with a longer scoreless stint was a team in New Haven in 1938-39 who went 258:49 without scoring a single goal.
Mancari only further proved why it is rediculous that he has been rotting on the forth line while players with half of his skill and experience are getting double shifts.
The theme for this season seems to be gettting on the verge of entering the record books but managing to stay out of them.
As expected the Amerks were defeated by the Manitoba Moose by the final score of 5-1 in Manitoba. The two teams will meet again on Saturday night and we’ll probably experience a similar outcome.
In the third period Pierre-Cedric Labrie of the Moose delivered a vicious hit to Mike Card of the [...]Read More
Amerks Need A Goal Against Moose Tonight
The Amerks are again on the verge of entering the record books, this time for longest scoring drought in AHL history. Last Friday was a must win to keep the team from taking soul ownership of the record for longest losing streak and they did just that and tied the record.
The Amerks have been shutout for three straight games and have not scored a goal in 204 minutes and 22 seconds. They have to score before there is 5:33 left in tonight’s game or else they’ll break a 69 year old record set by the New Haven Eagles in the 1938/39 season.
The Amerks are expected to have Dylan Hunter back in the lineup who has missed six games with a concussion, Tanner Glass has also been returned to the Amerks from the Panthers and will hopefully be able to make it to Manitoba in time. Clark MacArthur is still questionable with a hip injury. Also no word on whether or not Andrej Sekera made the trip after missing the game against Toronto with the flu.
The Amerks havn’t beaten the Moose in four games this season, and eight games total dating back to the 06/07 season. They [...]Read More

Amerks Shutout Again, Marlies Win 2-0
The Amerks were defeated by the first place Marlies 2-0 to lose in there third straight shutout and third straight loss. They have now lost 13 of the last 14 games.
If not for great saves by Adam Dennis the score certainly could have been higher, Dennis was the third star of the game with 31 saves. He had been out since December 19 when he suffered a minor groin injury.
Ben Ondrus scored the game winning goal at 11:19 of the second period on the power play when he was able to get his own rebound and shoot it high over Dennis. Mike Weber had been in the penalty box after getting a boarding penalty.
Jeremy Williams gave the Marlies the 2-0 lead at 1:45 of the third when he received a great cross ice pass from Colin Murphy and then one timed the puck off the cross bar and into the net.
The Amerks were unable to produce any action on two power play opportunities.
It seems as of late with the arrival of Tyler Plante and tonights performance by Adam Dennis that goal tending is no longer the problem, it’s our inability to score any goals.
Mark Mancari [...]Read More
Amerks Kick Off 2008 With Uncertainties
Tonight the Amerks kick off 2008 as a year with a lof of uncertainty as they head out on the road with a game against the division leading Toronto Marlies.
In the month of December the Amerks went 1-12 while tying a team record with 10 consecutive losses. They also finished the first 3 months of the season in last place in the Division, Conference, and 2nd to last in the league.
Statistically the Amerks still have the potential to climb out of the basement and back into playoff contention, or least prove they won’t be ranked amongst one of the worst Amerks team in history. In November they went 7-4 and were playing .500 hockey.
The skid started just after reports came that the Sabres were officially going to split from the Amerks at the end of the 07/08 season. Officials from the city of Rochester also indicated they would not negotiate renewing the lease beyond this season until after Rochester Sports Group figures out there financial issues and get things on solid ground.
The uncertainties include ownership, affiliation, the young team, coaching, and the lack of a lease with Blue Cross Arena beyond this season.
The Amerks, who are owned by Rochester [...]Read More
