The Amerks are expected to release their training camp roster within a week, so until that happens we’re short on Amerks news but plenty of news from other places.
** Evgeni or Evgeny (depending on the day of the week it seems) Dadonov has officially signed his entry level contract with the Florida Panthers and it was accepted by the NHL. He hasn’t played a game yet for the organization but he’s been in the news more than anyone else.
** Riley Emmerson signed a contract with the Springfield Falcons, affiliate of the Edmonton Oilers. He improved throughout last season and earned plenty of ice time for an enforcer. He never backed down from a challenge and always put up a good fight. There’s pleny of videos of Emmersons fights in the video section of this site. The Oilers signed Steve MacIntrye last season off of waivers from the Panthers/Amerks and this season they’ve taken someone else. The Amerks had not shown any interest in Emmerson.
** 29 Teams in 29 Days is a series that Chris Rahn (a writer for Inside Hockey) just started over on his site about American Hockey League news. He has written about the Abbotsford Heat and Adirondack Phantoms so far and I’m assuming is going in alphabetical order.
** The Syracuse Crunch are going to have a new scoreboard and some new lower bowl seats this season. It’ll be nice to be able to see replays at games in Syracuse and sit in comfortable seats. The only thing that seems to make news these days are owners trying to convince local governments to build new stadiums but Crunch owner Howard Dolgen seems content making improvements to what they have.
** Every team except for the Providence Bruins is on Twitter and often posts updates. If you don’t care for or want to use Twitter you can easily keep track of recent posts by teams through this link – http://t4bp.com/followtheahl
** Sabres prospect Nathan Gerbe is convinced he’s finished playing in the AHL after one season. This really isn’t that big of a deal, every NHL hopeful says their going to make the team.
“I’m not going back there ( to Portland )”, he adamantly told me after his workout. “Its not going to happen. I’ll play whatever position they want me to play. I’m not going down”.
Period. End of subject.
Gerbe is hungry and he’s ready to show his coach, GM, and teammates that he’s a fulltime NHLer. He will not shy away from the contact in camp. “I’m ready, lets go”.
