I live in South Florida and grew up as an avid AMERKS fan in Rochester….I have to agree with EVERYTHING you said…..and I’ll tell you that the PANTHERS Organization REALLY took a look at Rochester and felt that they HAD to support that market with a STRONG team mixed with Superb Goaltending….Highly talented[future superstars]younger players AND most importantly….strong leadership from Talented Veteran players……THEY HAVE DONE THAT…..Rochester…. You BE PROUD….The AMERICANS ARE BACK!!!!!

Well Said Keith, This is the most rational article I have read here in rochester about the amerks ties with the sabres. I don’t miss the sabres one bit. Its the media that keeps reminding us of our previous ties with the sabres. I have forgotten about that and have moved on. The panthers in my mind have been doing a very good job, especially this season.

just ‘found’ this site from a friend during training camp this year and I must say I am glad that I did!

Your words are perfect because they are exactly what ‘Being an Amerk’, ‘Being from Rochester’ should be!!

I have been an Amerk fan since childhood (50+ yrs) …I have been a Rochester fan the same. I love this city, this area, and everything that goes along with it.

I do believe that you missed one point that was missing and that was passion. Most Amerk teams have had passion. For the game, for the team and also unbelievable for this city. That has been missing lately. As an untangible element (you can not measure it) it can be overlooked. It can not be over looked when you see the opening statements on the big screen at the beginning of this years games (altho as a season ticket holder for 30+yrs this will get old to me) from Nolan and Gage.

It also cannnot be overlooked when you actually talk to Mr. Styres or just look in his eyes. I say to him , Thank you , for bringing his passion here.

Lastly, one reason that you also missed is that the game has changed and I do not believe always for the better. The same passion I talk about is something that is on the ice also. It is not the staged ‘fights’ that remind me of WWF however, if you watched the Sabres game last night (I know I know.. how could I bring up the Sabres game on an Amerk game night..lol), you wold have seen the passion that a fight is about when you saw Guastad immediately stand up to ‘protect the teams assets’ (does those words sound familiar??)

Hockey is a territorial game and trying to take out the fighting aspect reduces it to a NATO exercise, but this is a topic for a different blog. However losing /reducing this has also hurt the game in my opinion.

So as I find myself rambling, I go back and say ‘Here, here!!” and I to will attend that back alley get together!!

Keith, i have read every article on this i could find, every comment left by a fan, and i believe i finally found a person with same feelings i have towards “OUR” team! Your article is 100% accurite on all accounts! STANDING OVATION!!!!!! If u need back-up in that alley fight i’m with you!

The Amerks have been around far longer than the team that shall not be named…

“We are our own city, we’re not the armpit of Buffalo.”
If anything that hole of a city is the armpit of Rochester.

the only reason our attendence has been low is because our team has been in the basement for the past two seasons (and beyond that).
Without Anderson, we would have been in the hole that year too…

And yes…the Sabres are EXACTLY what I want right now…
Let’s see how their first few games have gone?
They are 1-3 with a LUCKY win over Providence that came with goaltending crapping the bed that evening.
Enroth looks terrible. Mark Mancari couldn’t be crying more about being there (are we surprised?)
Not the team I want here.
None of them have any desire to be in the AHL no matter what…

Our team has passion this season. A willingness to show what they’ve got here. They aren’t whining that they are “too good” to be here.
They want to win.

I love this team already…after only two weekends.
