Gameday: Amerks Home vs Heat; Panther Trades

Going to keep this short and sweet today, the Amerks start a three game stretch tonight with a home game against the Abbotsford Heat.  To say it’s a “must win” is probably an understatement.  The Amerks have lost the past three Friday night home games and none of the games have been exciting.  It’s a new day though and a new day for some excitement.  I hope.

The game plan should be pretty simple, play like your job is on the line.  That is if by the time the game starts some players still have a job with the Florida Panthers organization.  Randy Sexton said on Thursday night that “no one is off limits” as they try and make changes to a roster that is highly doubtful to make the playoffs.  The Panthers already made one move on Thursday trading Dominic Moore to the Montreal Canadiens for a 2nd round pick in 2011.

The pre-Olympic deadline is 3pm.  Any move could directly impact the Amerks if the Panthers need to call someone up to take the spot of a traded player or even one of the prospects here being traded.  We’ll see what happens.

A few great sources to keep bookmarked throughout the day for news:

You do not have to sign up for Twitter if you don’t get it or whatever, but it’s a great way to stay on top of “breaking news.”

The Amerks also have a home game on Saturday night at 7:35 vs the Lake Erie Monsters and then they travel to play Binghamton on Sunday at 5pm.  I’ll be going to all three games this weekend.

Jason Garrison is expected back in the lineup tonight and should be very helpful on defense.  The Mike York saga continues with the latest news is that he is skating (somewhere – no idea where) and that he could be ready in two weeks.  Every fan I have talked to says that they hope he comes back healthy and as good as before but no one is getting their hopes up.

The guys that run The Blue Line will be at tonight’s game and said they’ll be live blogging it, make sure to check them out at http://BlueLineShow.com if you’re not going to be there.

What I’d like to see happen is the Amerks win two games this weekend to at least capture it’s 2,000th win in the teams 54 year history.  I’d also like to see Jamie Johnson score a lot of goals but at least one to become the teams first 20 goal scorer this season.  Jeff Taffe and Michal Repik are at 17 goals so it’d also be nice to see them crack that mark.

Kevin Oklobzija teased on his blog that he’ll have some comments from Ted Nolan in the Friday morning paper in both print and online.  Make sure to check that out and see what is said (this post is going up prior to the paper coming out).
