Twas the Night Before the Opener

Twas the night before the Amerks home opener when all through the barn not a creature was stirring, not even a moose.  The old jerseys were hung by the stalls with care, in hopes that the alumni’s soon would be there.

The players were nestled all snug in their beds, while sounds of goal horns rang in their ears..

When out on the ice there arose such a clatter, the Moose rang from his stall to see what was the matter.  Away to the glass he flew like a flash, tore open the zamboni doors and flipped up the lights.

The lights on the new frozen ice gave the lustre of the soon to be opening night.  When, what to his wondering eyes would appear but a limo full of eight reunited alumni.

With a little old driver, so lively and quick, the Moose knew in a moment it must be Don Stevens.  More rapid than eagles the alumni they came, and he whistled and shouted and called them by name!

“Now Audette, now Dunn, now Fisher and Dykstra!  On Gage, Gamble, Garwasiuk and Gibson!  To the blue line and center ice they went.

The Moose sprang to his skates to give the team a whistle, and away they all skated like the celebration of a game 7 final whistle.

But as they skated out of sight the sounds of St Stevens could be heard saying happy Amerks home opener to all and to all a good night!

Alright, that could be the cheesiest thing I’ve ever attempted to write, that’s all I could get out.. inspired by a player on Tuesday night saying tonight was going to be like Christmas Eve in anticipation of a the largest crowd in anyone’s recent memory.
