Entering the 4th Season of LetsGoAmerks, A Few Small Changes

September is here and that means it’s the month that the hockey season officially starts.  Players start arriving in cities for training camps and preseason games will be played.  It also means this will be the fourth season that I’ve written about the Rochester Americans hockey team.

There is a lot of news I missed over the past two months but if you’re a die hard hockey fan you read about it already on the Amerks site or over at the Democrat and Chronicle.  There really wasn’t another perspective that I could have been provided on much so I enjoyed [...]Read More

It’s been a long summer and with the change in weather this weekend everyone is getting the feeling that the hockey season is finally upon us. With that, I’ve created the Amerks 2010-2011 regular season schedule in a way that you can import it into your phones calendar (or desktop calendar if you’re old school).  If you have an iPhone, Blackberry or Android device this should be pretty simple for you. Anything else and get in touch and I’ll do my best to help you out.

Hockey Game Today in Rochester with Amazing Lineup

I should have posted this much sooner, but I’ve been away on vacation and just getting caught back up.  Anyways, today at 5:30pm is an amazing lineup of hockey players playing a game to support Craig Charron’s fight against cancer.  Also, it’s only $10 to see hockey in August.  Not a bad deal for what will be a great game and also for a great cause.

Click here for a great writeup about the event, here’s the lineup from the same article:

Local NHLers Brian Gionta, Marty Reasoner and Ryan Callahan are playing. So is Sabres coach Lindy Ruff, [...]Read More

Goodbye Taffe, Everblades and Possible Coach This Weekend

July 23, 2010 - By Keith Wozniak

It’s the middle of the summer and hunting down stories isn’t really a priority this time of year for me, so here’s some updates to get you caught up.

** Mike Santos told the Sun-Sentinel that he “expects to name a coach at AHL Rochester this weekend.”  Today is Friday the weekend is upon is.  It’s going to be interesting with the affiliation up in the air after this season if someone agrees to a long term deal or just a one year deal to get through this season.

** Jeff Taffe was traded on Thursday from the Florida [...]Read More

Amerks Release Schedule Format, See a Whopping 13 Teams Out of 30

July 13, 2010 - By Keith Wozniak

The Rochester Americans released the schedule format for the 2010-2011 and it’s just what was expected, see the same teams yet again.  The league has expanded to 30 teams but most teams, like the Amerks, will only play against about 13 of them.

One bright spot is that the Amerks will play twice against the Worcester Sharks, once at home and once on the road.  At least there’s one different team on the schedule.

There are no games against Western Division teams at all.  The only team in the Atlantic Division the Amerks will play is the Sharks.

The biggest obstacle in [...]Read More

Carl Hudson Signs with Panthers, Will Help Amerks Defense

It's the ninth day of free agency in hockey and although some of the top free agents have signed elsewhere, the news that the Florida Panthers signed defenseman Carl Hudson to an entry level contract is great news.  There's still a need for a veteran defenseman, but I'll take the news for the day.  Hudson [...]Read More

July 8, 2010 - By Keith Wozniak

Now that the American Hockey League has a 30 teams in the league and all of the divisions are unbalanced, there'll now be a crossover rule in both the East and West Conferences.  There will still be 16 teams total making the playoffs. Updated: I had originally said only the Eastern Conference had the crossover [...]Read More

More Top Free Agent Signings in The AHL

July 7, 2010 - By Keith Wozniak

It appears as if the going rate for the top free agents around The AHL is a two year two way deal with an NHL team.  I'll hold off for now on making assumptions about why there have not been mor signings for the Amerks. Defenseman Dan Jancevski along with forwards Tim Stapleton and Mike [...]Read More

Panthers Hire Brian Skrudland for Development Role

Panthers Hire Brian Skrudland for Development Role

The Florida Panthers have added another name to their front office with the hiring of Brian Skudland.  As Gorten says below, he was the Panthers captain for the first four seasons of the organization.  Having a front office that believes in the franchise will hopefully trickle down to having players that can create a winner [...]Read More
