They Played Like Champions

The team looked good in green. They announced a disappointing crowd of just under 4, looked like a lot more...honestly. From the opening faceoff, on this night, the Amerks looked every bit the team that could go far in post season. there was nothing to criticize. All the lines were effective; the 'd' combos were working and Wedgewood made the big stops when he had to. It was a 60 minute effort. By the time they scored their 5th goal you could tell they were playing for their goalie to get the shutout. And you could tell that Bridgeport was only working hard to break that shutout.

The Sound Tigers came in on a 7 game win streak and an 11 game point streak. In short, they were hot. Amerks doused them quickly with buckets full of ice water. It was total domination. The goals came from some unlikely sources. Asplund, who basically couldn't find the ocean with the puck this season scored a pair; our Man About Town, Alex Nylander scored his 3rd goal in his last 3 games...a veritable bonanza of scoring! The Captain was back and he got the scoring going early in the 1st period. And Oglevie, who has been injured most the year lit the lamp.

the PK was a perfect 4-4 and the power play chipped in one goal. The feet were moving; the passing on the mark. A few good scoring chances went for naught when pucks missed the net, but when you get 5, that really didn't matter much. We were all waiting for the inevitable collapse, or letdown after it was 4-0....and it never happened. Not even close.

the home crowd has not been treated to many games like this so we savored every minute. With the win, we kept pace with Syracuse and Toronto. Meanwhile Utica and Belleville have fallen 10 points back of Rochester. Amerks play 2 more this weekend, while the Crunch play only one. So we could actually get back into at least a tie for the top spot again.

Its probably time to keep in mind that the Crunch own the 1st tiebreaker...they have more ROW's. the shutout was the 4th for Wedge. The win was #36 which is just one less than last years total.

It was a fun night at the hockey barn. This was exactly how the team needed to respond to last Sunday's unfortunate loss. Now, lets go out and get 4 more points this weekend.

A couple of those goals were really great. Fun game to watch. I agree that the attendance looked higher, although I couldn't see the upper end with all the seats on the TV feed. Looked pretty full along the sides.
