Amerks Look to Officially Clinch Tonite

They are also looking to climb back into first place....which would be a lot better. Last night Tage Thompson gave the Amerks a lift after losing #12. After a pretty shaky 1st period (which everyone acknowledged) Thompson and the team rebounded and played solid for 40 minutes. And when Thompson deflected in the go ahead goal...Amerks actually preserved the lead. Wilcox played well enough. One goal was on a 5 on 3 power play, which he had no chance of stopping. The other came on an early 3rd period PP, where Amerks just weren't sharp.

Other than that, it was a good win. Malone played perhaps his best game of the season. O'Regan joins the 20 goal club....leaving just Simpson to get his 20th to make it 6 Amerks with 20 (Leier has 10 with us and 10 win Lehigh) Simpson hasn't scored in quite awhile.

Crunch lost again...they have opened the door for us over the past 4 games. WE trail them by 1 with 3 more head to head. Would be nice if Sabres returned a couple of our d-men for next weekend. Last nights 6 d-men were quite a collection...4 of our regular 6 were not here. They did very nicely. Atwol played strong as did #42...who was on the ice for a lot of minutes.

A crowd of just over 6,000 looked on to see the rare win when people actually show up. Amerks attendance this year has been poor, quite honestly. Used to be that in the final month, they would have crowds of over 7,000 routinely. This year 6,000 seems to be the ceiling on a good night. If they can somehow manage a nice playoff run, we'll see some decent crowds.

We can't take this game tonite for granted. We absolutely should win, but sometimes when you're playing teams that are totally out of it, they can make life miserable. Bingo has been VERY bad this month. So, we have to play them as though they are fighting for a playoff spot. Wedgewood needs a good game. It was no accident Wilcox got the start last night. But Wedge needs to be #1 and he isn't playing like one.

We will have 4 games remaining after Buffalo's season ends...thats enough time for our regulars to get back into a winning groove again.

A win tonite and we pass last years point total of 91...achieved in great part by loser points. Not so this year.

Thanks...we are hoping for a better outcome this year. We have a very motivated bunch of guys. Only our goaltending has us worried.
