Binghamton vs Amerks 11/1 BCA

The Binghamton (fill in the blank, it changes regularly) stroll into town tonite for a date with the Rochester Amerks. Its anyone's guess what will happen.
Amerks have had a very uneven start after 10 games...basically they have won 5 and lost 5 (with two of those losses earning them a couple of loser points)
Its no secret that the major issue with this team so far is their abysmal special teams. This is no exaggeration...the power play is dead and the penalty kill is terrible. The team looks totally lost when playing short or with an extra skater. Don't really understand why they are so bad, but clearly the coaches have a lot of work to do to get this straightened out.

A few players, that kind of make up our 'core' have not played well. No need to name them. Everyone who watches the team knows who they are and they have to kick themselves back into the game if this team is to be a playoff contender.

In goal, Hammond started out like a house on fire...and now he looks like the house burned down. JJ has been adequate and UPL is close to arriving here at last. Our division has two studs...Toronto and Utica. Neither have lost in regulation. Utica hasn't lost at all and we have another date with them tomorrow. The first encounter was a mess, with Utica toying with us in a 7-1 romp. Doesn't seem to be any indication things will be better tomorrow...but maybe its time for a major upset. That would be nice.

Attendance for our first 4 home games has been more miserable than usual. The large number of Wednesday games, coupled with early season lows even on Fridays is a bit discouraging.

What is the RX for this? Simple. WIN. Play tough, winning hockey at home and the fans will begin to dribble back in. Amerks have been nothing special at home in recent seasons. Would like to see that change. I figure a crowd tonite of between 3,500 and 4,000. Binghamton has never been a big draw here.

Curious about the "more miserable than usual" so I've course I went to my spreadsheet.

Here's the overall month of October for this season and the previous five..

19/20 - 3425 (4 games - 2 Fri, 2 Wed)
18/19 - 3711 (6 games - 3 Fri, 2 Sat, 1 Wed)
17/18 - 3417 (6 games - 4 Fri, 2 Sat)
16/17 - 4978 (3 games - 2 Fri, 1 Sun)
15/16 - 5155 (4 games - 2 Fri, 1 Sat, 1 Sun)
14/15 - 4971 (4 games - 2 Fri, 1 Sat, 1 Wed)

Just the Friday games averages in October..

19/20 - 4155
18/19 - 4366
17/18 - 3565
16/17 - 5960
15/16 - 5916
14/15 - 6278

When the team is iffy on the ice like they are now (thanks special teams) we stray to these discussions about attendance. Five on five they're playing great but we all know you'll keep losing in any sport if special teams is horrendous.

I'll work on cleaning up the few spreadsheets I have running so I can share them.
