Amerks at Utica

Post by insagt1 » Sat Nov 02, 2019 7:02 pm

Its time for an upset. Amerks have only two games this week and they won the first one. Utica is off to a great start and they killed the Amerks in their first meeting. Hammond needs to get some revenge. An Amerks win would keep the teams fairly close in the standings, and give us a perfect 2-0 week.
(forgot about Sabres traveling to Sweden...so was not anticipating losing a goalie)

We got the upset! Utica looked like poop and Rochester took full advantage.

Hammond picked a good time to regain his swagger. With Sabres heading across the pond, we lost goalie JJ for awhile. Apparently they didn't want to recall UPL yet, so they signed someone else temporarily. Meantime, Hammond was strong last night against Binghamton...probably should have allowed just 1 (the 2nd came right at the end with everyone sleeping) But he was even better tonite leading the Amerks to a big upset win in Utica 6-0. Second straight shutout loss for Utica, and this one avenged nicely the 6 goal deficit loss to the Comets early in the season.

It has been said that special teams will make or break you, and so far they have broken the Amerks....until tonite. Amerks killed off 4 penalties, scored their first 2 shorthanded goals of the season and actually scored a power play goal too. Thats more like it. CJ Smith and Zach Redmond left the game with apparent injuries. But Amerks only play once in the next 10 days so that hopefully will allow those who are banged up to heal some more.

Amerks tied in points with Utica and are 1 behind Toronto. Thats the good news. The bad news is both those teams have 2 in hand. But the weekend gave the Amerks a huge boost. The team played without question their most complete game of the season. And they did it against a powerhouse, who found out, like so many others, that you have to bring your 'A' game to the rink every night, no matter who the opponent.

Uh-oh---is it happening again, Sabres fans are wondering? After that sizzling start, suddenly Buffalo has lost 4 of 5, including a tough 1-0 decision to red hot Islanders (winners of 9 straight) Looking too much like deja vu for many Sabres fans.
Besides the Isles...who else is red hot? Washington and Boston. Bruins the only team with just 1 regulation loss and the Caps lead the NHL in points with 23 (although they have played more games than anyone else.)

What a difference a week (a few days) makes.

A few days ago (a week ago) Amerks fans were panicking and Sabres fans were feeling good.

Now Sabres fans are panicking and Amerks fans are feeling good.

So the reality is UPL coming here and Hammond crossing the pond...not JJ. Amerks play one game this week and then nothing again till the following Wednesday. Hey this looks like the WEst Coast practice division!!!

So, if we have to put up with the insanely loud music, perhaps could we at least be entertained with cheerleaders like Utica has!! :D

I know its totally cheezy, but not much worse than some of the crap the Amerks do, which is even worse IMO. (at least the girls are pretty!!..hows that for a totally out of touch politically incorrect, sexist comment!!!!)
Utica's arena is small, but the fans seem to really be into it....like we used to be!

Bruins off to their best start...they are winning even when they don't play well. Only team with just 1 regulation loss. BUT if there is any team on the planet that can slow them down, it is Montreal...who they play tonite.
Caps are also red hot and scoring at will. But maybe the team thats the most dangerous now would be the Islanders. They have 3 games in hand on the Caps and could conceivably be leading the NHL if those games turn into wins at some point.
We aren't even to T-Day yet and there are only 3 teams left that haven't lost in OT/SO (Isles are one of them)
Ovechkin needs 42 goals this year to reach 700 (he has 11 so far)
Victor Olofsson has disappeared from the scoresheet. Only 1 assist in the past 8 games after a blistering start. We saw stretches like that in rochester.
Looks like another dreadful season for Ottawa, Detroit and LA.

Marlies and Comets make up one of the 2 games in hand on Amerks tomorrow. Would be nice if they would lose!

Well I called it...of course. If any team can find a way to break Boston's streak it would be Montreal. Tonite Bruins actually got jobbed. Had the goahead goal wiped out by a very questionable offside challenge...too close to reverse IMO and it took too long to decide. Its a lousy rule that needs to go away.
After the goal was wiped off, Bruins basically didn't get another shot on Price...momentum totally shifted and wouldn't you know, Habs got a cheapie past Rask, who completely misplayed a very routine shot Boston's only other regulation loss came in a game where 2 goals were wiped out by challenges.

but this one was so typical of Boston-Montreal games. Canadiens find a way. Once Bruins 5th goal was erased, I knew it was over.
Tough losing like that.
