Ryan was listed as "in Residence". That means he can play when emergency conditions arise.

Why would they put Ryan in this game tonight? Do they really want to lose this game? When was the last time he played in a game? November? Unbelievable!
They spent their own dough to get here, and they came here to see us! All right, let's show 'em what we got, guys! Get out there on the ice and let 'em know you're there.

Yea, I don't see Ryan being the reason the game is lost but finding it hard to believe he'll be the reason the game is won. Sure, Szydlowski hasn't scored but he's generated a few chances here and there. Can't hurt to give Ryan a shot I guess.
If there's anyone that should be out of the lineup it's Crawford.

Yeah, a bunch of bonehead plays by him. Too bad there's no one we can insert instead, other than Persson, who isn't much better.
