Late Game Penalty Leads To Shootout Loss

November 11, 2007 - By

The Rochester Americans lost to the unbeaten Chicago Wolves in a shoot out at Blue Cross Arena.  The Amerks ended another 3 game weekend with 3 out of a possible 6 points.

Patrick Kaleta returned to action this weekend and didn’t waste any time tonight when he got into a fight with Joey Crabb not even three minutes into the game.  He was able to throw a number of punches, most of which landed against Crabbs’ helmet.  Kaleta did what he does best, threw his body around, knocked opponents off the puck, and had fans cheering his name.

Tanner Glass scored the Amerks only goal of the game at 6:40 of the first period, and only goal in the first 59 minutes of hockey.  The goal was assisted by Rob Globke and Dylan Hunter.  Tanner went around behind the net, took the pass in front and he put it into the net for his second goal of the season.

Franklin MacDonald was sent to the penalty box at 18:20 of the third period for holding which led to Steve Martins of the Wolves tieing the game at 1 with 59 seconds remaining.  The goal was scored on wrist shot that just [...]Read More

Four game winning streak ends in Syracuse

November 11, 2007 - By

The Amerks were shut out 4-0 in Syracuse on Saturday night, ending a four game winning streak.  Stefan Meyer took a shot at an open net to tie the game at 1-1 but defenseman Dan Smith of the Crunch dove across the crease to block the puck.  Here’s an excerpt from the Democrat and Chronicle which seems to sum up the game.

(November 11, 2007) — SYRACUSE — Credit for the 22-save shutout went to Syracuse Crunch goalie Tomas Popperle, but defenseman Dan Smith actually made the biggest save in a 4-0 victory over the Rochester Americans.

An instant after Marc-Andre Gragnani’s point shot clanked off the goal post, Smith dived across the goal crease and blocked Stefan Meyer’s shot toward an open net.

Instead of a tie game at 1-1, Smith’s impromptu goaltending heroics kept the Crunch in the lead. To add even more insult to the Amerks, the Crunch sped the other way and scored the clinching insurance goal at 3:08 of the third period, a Derek Dorsett redirection of Derick Brassard’s goal-mouth pass.

“That was pretty much the night right there,” Meyer said. “If I put that in, we’re evened up. The worst part about it, they [...]Read More

The Comeback Kids: Amerks Win From Behind In Hamilton

November 9, 2007 - By

The Rochester Americans won their 4th straight tonight against the Hamilton Bulldogs 5-4 in a shoot out.

After going down 4-0, it was a miracle that the Rochester Americans brought home one point tonight, let alone two.  After winning three games straight the Amerks started to show that they lost key players starting the game against the Hamilton Bulldogs.

The Amerks were outshot by nearly 20 shots for most of the game and it was showing.  With goals by Cory Urquhart, Duncan Milroy, Maxim Lapierre, and Matt D’Agostini, the Amerks needed a big boast to get things going.  They got that at the end of the second period from Marc-Andre Gragnani who scored at 17:51 on the powerplay.

The third period was controlled by the Rochester Americans from the start.  Dylan Hunter led the scoring in the 3rd with his 6th goal of the season at 3:09.  Stefan Meyer and Marek Zagrapan scored within a 30 seconds of each other at 6:21 and 6:47 respectively.

The Amerks held on for the last 13 minutes of the game to take it into overtime.  There was no scoring there and it went right to a shootout.  Adam Dennis held on, letting no goals in, to get [...]Read More

Three game weekend; Bulldogs, Crunch, Wolves

November 8, 2007 - By

On Friday night the Rochester Americans begin another three game weekend in Hamilton against the Bulldogs, followed by Syracuse Crunch on Saturday, and a home game against the Chicago Wolves on Sunday.

The Amerks are coming off of two consecutive three game weekends and are on a three game winning streak.

The team will possibly be without many key players, Clarke MacArthur and Anthony Stewart were both recalled to the NHL earlier this week.  Both players have played an important role in the games they’ve played, MacArthur leading the way with the most points in the AHL.

Also still in the NHL are Kamil Kreps and Andrej Sekera.  Other players who may still be out due to injuries are Drew Larman (Seperated Shoulder – expected return the weekend of Nov 9th), Kenndal McArdle (Broken Jaw – weeks away from return), Mike Funk (Groin – Day 2 Day), and Jassen Cullimore (Groin – Day 2 Day).

Patrick Kaleta is expected to be back on the ice this weekend after recovering from a groin injury.  He has played in only two games this season due to reinjuring his groin in his second game back.

Friday’s game in Hamilton against the Bulldogs begins at 7:30PM.  The Amerks look for [...]Read More
