Gameday: Amerks at Bulldogs; Mike Ryan Injury

Gameday: Amerks at Bulldogs; Mike Ryan Injury

The Amerks start a four game road trip (with stops back home in between) tonight in Hamilton to play the Bulldogs for the third time in three weeks.  The Bulldogs have won both games, the first game was 5-2 and second game was a 3-2 win in the shootout.  The Amerks need to find a way to split Hamilton’s defense and when they do that they’ll be able to find ways to score.

The Bulldogs will have a different lineup than last Friday when they were here.  Their top scorer Brock Trotter was traded and Aaron Palushaj and Mike Blunden are called up to the Canadiens.

Rochester is 15th in the league on the power play, Hamilton is 4th.  On the penalty kill Rochester is 7th, Hamilton is 6th.  Special teams will play a role in the game tonight as they did last week with each team scoring a power play goal.

The game is at 7:30pm Eastern Time and can be heard on 1280 WHTK or watch online for $6.99 at AHLLive.com

A few other things:

** It’s David Leggio’s turn in net.  Is this good competition for the goalies or are they both being hurt not getting consecutive [...]Read More

Tortorella, Nichol, Biron and Highlights from the Sharky Memorial Classic

Tortorella, Nichol, Biron and Highlights from the Sharky Memorial Classic

The Craig Charron Memorial Classic on Sunday in Rochester was a great time for many reasons.  The two obvious reasons being the meaning behind the benefit and also the great hockey game in early August featuring so many great players.  At the start of the game John Tortorella and Scott Nichol gave two speeches which I’ve posted below.

Being there as a fan just hanging out and watching it was a great time.  There was the standard style of hockey play you’d see at an All-Star Game, little defense, a lot of passing, some guys rifling shots and of course the expected shenanigans from Andrew Peters and Martin Biron.

It was a night full of memories for a lot of people.  The game, the autographs, souvenirs and pictures.  Many of the players handed out sticks after the game to lucky fans, something that will live with kids forever.

Here’s some more interview material from the Rochester Americans YouTube page:

And here’s the highlights from The Rochester Americans:

And lastly some awesome back and forth between Andrew Peters and Martin Biron from the Amerks:

Andrew Peters vs Lane MacDermid Fight Video

September 24, 2010 - By

The Florida Panthers put on a very entertaining game on Thursday night in their victory over the Boston Bruins in the preseason game.  Andrew Peters is trying to prove he still has what it takes to play in the NHL and early in the first period he dropped the gloves with Lane MacDermid.

A Couple of Things on Ellerby, Peters and Booth

A Couple of Things on Ellerby, Peters and Booth

As much as I love the summer time, there’s no better way to spend the first day of fall than inside of Blue Cross Arena watching some hockey.  The Panthers finished up their morning skate and now it’s the Bruins turn on the ice.  Tuukka Rask will be getting the start in net for the Bruins, Tomas Vokoun for the Panthers.  We’re in for a treat with these two goalies.

I’ll have more as the day goes on, here’s just a couple of things..

After the morning skate David Booth  said that he’s excited to play again and in a building where he started his professional career.  While smiling he said, “I just need to keep my head up.”

Andrew Peters  knows his role and said that he does not plan his fights but is always ready to fight if needed.  He’s determined to prove that he’s a great 4th line player and is going to do everything he can to not be sent down to the Amerks.  Peters was asked about his fight with his brother in the AHL years ago and he laughed saying, “my moms an attorney and I had to sign a document saying I’d never [...]Read More

Heres Hoping for an Andrew Peters Fight

Heres Hoping for an Andrew Peters Fight

Thursday night will be the first game for Andrew Peters in a Florida Panthers uniform and I’ll come right out and say here’s hoping to see him headline a fight at center ice.  There’s no question that Peters is working to earn a full time with the Panthers and one way he’ll need to do that is to show his skills, both pugilistic and with the puck.  Being a fan of hockey fights, Thursday night against the Boston Bruins is his perfect opportunity!

Andrew Peters played three seasons with the Rochester Americans followed by five with the Buffalo Sabres, he’s someone that fans are familiar with in Western New York.  In the 2001-2002 season he compiled an impressive 388 penalty minutes in an Amerks uniform.

Three possible options for Peters would be Milan Lucic, Brian McGrattan and Shawn Thornton.  McGrattan played on Wednesday night for the Bruins so it’s possible that Thornton and Lucic could be in the lineup Thursday night.

Some real hockey talk later…

The batteries are charged and camera is ready to go, don’t let us down Andrew Peters!

Top Six Amerks Stories That Needed a Followup

August 28, 2009 - By

I’ve posted a number of stories about the Rochester Americans this summer and found six that needed a follow up prior to the new season starting.  If anyone ever comes across something I’ve posted or said in the past that needs correcting please share.

1. This summer the Amerks HAVE done everything they said they were going to do.  A lot of people have been skeptical about the team and changes that were announced at the end of last season and for good reason.  I believe that this organization wants to be open and honest which they have been.

2. The Moose is NOT going anywhere.  I’ve talked to a few people that there was talks at some point but it was probably just one of those things tossed around.  Bottom line – he’s safe as a mascot.

3. Andrew Peters is NOT signing with the Amerks.  There’s no room for him.  The Amerks have six veterans currently signed right now which is the limit in the AHL.  Could that change if one of the current players earns a full time spot in Florida and Peters still needs a job?  Of course, but not likely (although I [...]Read More

Florida Panthers Interested in Andrew Peters?

June 25, 2009 - By

Apparently Andrew Peters and the Florida Panthers have talked of a potential two way deal for next season.  I hope that Curt Styres, Lewis Staats, and Jody Gage have all called Randy Sexton to tell him that this would be a terrible idea.  If it turns out that any of them thought this was a great idea it will hurt their image amongst the fans.  We’ve been promised that the Panthers would be active during free agency in building up a winning team in Rochester, let’s hope that this is not the start.

Based on the fact that it would be a two way deal I could not imagine that the Panthers would actually want him playing for them in the NHL.

I’m not one to jump on rumors and write about them, but this one deserved a post in hopes that it does not happen.  It seems as if I’m not alone either based on the reaction by some dedicated fans on Rochester Sports Fan where this story originated from.

Andrew Peters played in an Amerks uniform for three seasons from 2000 – 2003, played in 173 games, and spent 729 minutes in the penalty box.  During that [...]Read More
