Rochester Americans Live on the NHL Network

February 7, 2009 - By

If you’re not going to the game, and have the NHL Network, make sure to set your DVR to record the Rochester Americans vs Binghamton Senators Saturday afternoon at 2pm.  This is the fifth consecutive season that NHL Network has televised games from the AHL, most recently having provided live coverage of the entire 2008 Calder Cup Finals last spring.

Saturdays game will be the fourth of eight meetings between the non-divisional rivals this season and can be heard live on SportsRadio 1280 WHTK, whtk.com, AHL Live, and as noted above the NHL Network. Rochester looks for its first win of the season against the B-Sens after coming up winless and being outscored 11-4 in the three previous encounters. Rochester is 19-26-4 lifetime against the Sens.

The Amerks were selected to have three of their games as part of the six game package.

Amerks fall to B-Sens 4-1; Meyer out until after all-star break

January 15, 2009 - By

The Amerks just couldn’t get anything going when they took on the Binghamton Senators tonight at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena, losing to the Senators 4-1.

The team started without one of their better players.  Jacob MicFlikier has a cracked foot.  He will be out for about 4 weeks.

Riley Emmerson was back in the lineup, however, and made his presence know when he took on Yablowski (typo stays).  I would call the fight in favor of the mohawked Senator.  Not a horrible fight for Riley, but he looked a bit rusty.

He wasn’t the only one to drop the gloves tonight.  Neil Clark took on on Geoff Waugh.  I would have called the fight for Neil who gave a handful of jabs to Waugh’s head.  But, Clark also busted up his hand.  He left the game for a few minutes while he got it checked out but, was back on the ice before his penalty was up.

Jordan Henry also decided to “fight” tonight.  He tangled with Zack Smith.  Jordan did little to nothing in this fight so, he lost.  When asked what made him drop the gloves tonight because it is rare that he does [...]Read More

1/14/2008 Game Day: Amerks at Senators

January 14, 2009 - By

It’s the coldest day of the new year here in the 607, the Amerks are on the bus head ingdown to play against the Binghamton Senators tonight at Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena.

The Amerks are coming off of a high scoring game where they beat the Hamilton Bulldogs by the final score of 6-5.  Rookie defenseman Jason Garrison led the way with a single-game best four-point performance, while Shawn Matthias (2+1) and Cory Murphy (1+2) each chipped in with three points apiece to earn third, first and second star honors, respectively. Goaltender Mike Brodeur made 29 saves to record his 10th win as an Amerk.

History isn’t in favor of the Amerks in Binghamton though, they dropped a 4-2 decision in the previous meeting with the B-Sens on January 10th. The Amerks are winless this season against the Senators and are 19-25-4 all-time against the Ottawa Senators’ affiliate.  The B-Sens are 9-0-0-1 in their last 10 games against Rochester dating back to the beginning of the 2007-08 season.

The key to winning is stopping Denis Hamel from touching the puck.  If that can happen the Amerks may have a chance.

Scoring some goals could also help as well.. [...]Read More

10/12: Amerks Lose to Binghamton 3-1

October 13, 2008 - By

The Rochester Americans lost to the Binghamton Senators on Sunday night, final score was 3-1.  The Amerks opened the season with three games in three nights and lost all three.  They go on the road to play the Manitoba Moose next weekend, October 17 and 18th.

The Amerks lone goal was scored when Tanner Glass tipped in a shot from the point by Peter Aston at 15:01 of the third period.

The much anticipated Shawn Matthias was again not very visible.  Expectations are high on him so the less he produces the more fans are going to wonder.  One factor in tonights game could have been that we were often on the penalty kill or power play, a role he may not be intended for.

Chris Beckford-Tseu gets another loss in his column, but he played well.  The first two Binghamton goals were scored after some superb passing on a power play, and the third by bad defensive coverage.  He needs to be given time before anyone gets ready to throw in the towel on him.  More than anything our young defense needs some work to be able to help him out.

It was another game (and familiar [...]Read More

Binghamton Senators win 5-4

October 28, 2007 - By

The Rochester Americans fought a tough battle tonight against the Binghamton Senators, but had too little too late in the 5-4 loss at Blue Cross Arena.

Clark MacArthur returned to the lineup after missing Saturday nights game against the Syracuse Crunch and made his mark with a goal and two assists.

Before the game in an interview with Don Stevens, Randy Cunneyworth stated the the word “inconsistent” is what can sum up this team so far this season, which was apparent during tonights game.  While we got ‘crunched’ on Saturday night, we played a much better game tonight.

At 5:31 of the first period, after Bobby Robins, newcomer to the Amerks, layed out Greg Amadio of the Senators, they dropped there gloves and helmets and squared off to entertain the crowd with a quick fight.

Marc-Andre Gragnani assisted on the first goal of the game as he fed a great pass from behind the net to David Brine who slid the puck into the net.  Brian Lee tied the score at 1-1 a couple minutes later with a power play goal on what was basically a carbon copy of Brines goal.

Dan Collins of the Americans committed a lousy turnover as he was working on [...]Read More
