McArdle and Grant Saturday Night Fight Videos

In preseason games players like Kenndal McArdle and Triston Grant are playing their hearts out trying to show some toughness and skill to keep them on the NHL roster for the regular season.  On Saturday night both of them dropped the gloves to try and show some energy and skills and here’s the results.  McArdle and Stuart was more of a wrestling match and Lucic had the upper hand on Grant but it was a decent fight.

10 Reasons To Go To Tonights Panthers vs Bruins Game

Tonight is the NHL preseason game between the Florida Panthers and Boston Bruins at Blue Cross Arena and if you’re still undecided about going, I thought I’d share some reasons to go.  If you decide you want tickets, call the Amerks office at (585) 454-5335.  Ticket prices?  Yea, you can see those here.

10. It’s hockey!!!!  After a long summer of dealing with other sports where people run around on the grass we finally have the return of the greatest sport on earth.

9. Dimtry Kulikov and Erik Gudbranson.  These two will likely anchor the Florida Panthers defense for many years to come.  It’s still unknown whether Gudbranson will stay in the NHL this season but if not he’ll be back next year.  You don’t care about Panthers players you say?  I understand that.  I’m sure many people said the same thing years ago when Ovechkin played in Rochester for the Capitals but today would love to see him play.  As a hockey fan it’s great to get the chance to see players who bypassed the AHL completely.

8. The return of Andrew Peters and potential for a great preseason hockey fight.  Peters is working hard to try and [...]Read More

Heres Hoping for an Andrew Peters Fight

Heres Hoping for an Andrew Peters Fight

Thursday night will be the first game for Andrew Peters in a Florida Panthers uniform and I’ll come right out and say here’s hoping to see him headline a fight at center ice.  There’s no question that Peters is working to earn a full time with the Panthers and one way he’ll need to do that is to show his skills, both pugilistic and with the puck.  Being a fan of hockey fights, Thursday night against the Boston Bruins is his perfect opportunity!

Andrew Peters played three seasons with the Rochester Americans followed by five with the Buffalo Sabres, he’s someone that fans are familiar with in Western New York.  In the 2001-2002 season he compiled an impressive 388 penalty minutes in an Amerks uniform.

Three possible options for Peters would be Milan Lucic, Brian McGrattan and Shawn Thornton.  McGrattan played on Wednesday night for the Bruins so it’s possible that Thornton and Lucic could be in the lineup Thursday night.

Some real hockey talk later…

The batteries are charged and camera is ready to go, don’t let us down Andrew Peters!

Panthers 2010 Preseason Game; Affiliation; Curt's Wallet

November 19, 2009 - By

The big news of the day was the Florida Panthers announcing a preseason game in Rochester against the Boston Bruins on September 23, 1010.  A mere 10 months in advance.

Florida Panthers GM Randy Sexton was already in town following the Panthers 6-2 win over the Sabres on Wednesday night and will also be at the Amerks game on Friday night.

Any positive news is good news.  This is being done because it’s something Curt Styres had asked about and the Panthers said they could do if it could be worked out.

Randy Sexton also said that if the schedule allows the Panthers could also spend a couple of days practicing here in Rochester.  It will all depend on the rest of the schedule.

Preseason games can be exciting because a lot of younger players are giving it their all to try and show the big club they have the skills to play in the NHL.  We all know there are not a lot of Florida Panthers fans in Rochester but it’ll be a number of Amerks on the team so it should be a good team.  Add in the Boston Bruins and as long as [...]Read More

What happened to some of last years Amerks?

October 2, 2009 - By

Drew Larman is currently playing with the Providence Bruins

The summer of 2009 has been an exciting one with the roster that has been built for the 2009/2010 Rochester Americans.  There’ll be a lot of questions from fans getting to know some of the new players but also a lot of questions wondering about some favorites from last season.

So here’s a quick rundown of players that are no longer in the Florida Panthers or Rochester Americans organizations:

Tanner Glass – He signed a one year two way deal with the Vancouver Canucks.  After a strong training camp he’s on the Canucks opening night roster.  The Panthers had said they would have liked him back but were not ready to offer him a deal prior to the start of free agency.

Janis Sprukts – is currently playing for Dinamo Riga in the KHL.  Sprukts was unhappy last season when he realized he had no real chance of cracking the Florida Panthers lineup.  So he packed up his things and went across the pond.

Mike Brodeur – The Florida Panthers were ready to offer him a $105,000 contract to stay in the organization but Brodeur thought [...]Read More
