Brady Calla Rejoins the WHL Kamloops Blazers

November 19, 2008 - By

Brady Calla returned to the Kamloops Blazers of the WHL on Tuesday.  While with the Amerks he recorded one assist in 8 games this season after scoring 2 goals and 2 assists in 6 games with Rochester at the end of the 2007-08 season.

Calla was drafted by the Panthers in the third round (73rd overall) of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.

When Calla was first signed, Jacques Martin had this to say, “Brady is a young prospect who works hard, has defensive responsibility and plays with a physical presence.  We are very pleased to have signed a high-character individual like Brady and we look forward to his continued development and growth into a complete player within our organization.”

He just did not fit into this current lineup, so best of luck to Brady back in the Western Hockey League.  Get some more playing time and experience, see you next season.

Meet Some Amerks' Players Tonight

October 22, 2008 - By

Every season, the Rochester Americans’ players go out on the town to many different places for fans to meet them and strike up a conversation or two.  I always enjoyed bringing my son to these events, he loves the events and always thinks it’s a great time to get to talk to his favorite hockey players.

The events for this year are getting underway tonight in a few ways:

First there is the best program that the Amerks offer the community (in my opinion), the “Reading PowerPlay” program.  A player and the Moose go to an area library and reads the children there a book.  Then, the player gives a demonstration of all the hockey equipment that the players have to wear during every game.  A child gets to go up and try it all on, which is always a funny site.  They then have a signing where the kids can each get up close with the player and the Moose.

Tonight, Rory FitzPatrick will be the player visiting the West Irondequoit Library at 7:00pm.  Don’t forget that the Reading Power Play is a way to get your Mooseketeer some points.

Don’t miss out on a chance to get [...]Read More

Panthers Sign Brady Calla

May 21, 2008 - By

Assuming the Florida Panthers sign back on as an affiliate of the Amerks we should expect to see Calla be in an Amerks uniform in the 08/09 season.

SUNRISE, Fla. “ Florida Panthers General Manager Jacques Martin announced today (May 20, 2008) that the club has agreed to terms on an entry level contract with RW Brady Calla.

Calla, 20, played in 52 games with the Kamloops Blazers of the Western Hockey League after being traded from the Moose Jaw Warriors, for Panthers prospect D Keaton Ellerby, 16 games into the 2007-08 season. With the Blazers, Calla had 30 points (10-20-30) and 52 penalty minutes. Calla played in 39 games for Moose Jaw during the 2006-07 season, scoring 32 points (12-20-32) in 39 games. In four playoff games this spring for the Blazers, Calla had two assists.

Brady is a young prospect who works hard, has defensive responsibility and plays with a physical presence, said Martin.  We are very pleased to have signed a high-character individual like Brady and we look forward to his continued development and growth into a complete player within our organization.

Four Recent Signings

April 2, 2008 - By

Here’s a few more recent transactions over the past few days, we’re a few days behind schedule around these parts.

04/01/08
Jason Garrison:
Signed a two-year deal with the Florida Panthers.

Don’t think Garrison should spend too much money on sunblock, though, what with the winters in Rochester being what they are and all.

In all seriousness, Garrison sounds like a solid signing, a character guy who — to coin a JM phrase — be a good pro. And, it seems like he has some grit, coming back from a broken leg to play in the postseason for UMD (which is not short for University of North Dakota).  Source / Hockey DB Stats

Andrew Sweetland:
SUNRISE, Fla.  Florida Panthers General Manager and Head Coach Jacques Martin announced today that the club has agreed to terms with free agent college prospect F Andrew Sweetland on an entry level contract.

Andrew is a player that we identified a few years ago and have followed his progress closely, and he participated in our development camp last year, said Martin. He is a player that posses good size, speed, skill and hockey sense. He will have an [...]Read More
