Panthers Game in Rochester was an Entertaining Success

Panthers Game in Rochester was an Entertaining Success

When it was announced that the Florida Panthers were going to play a preseason game against the Boston Bruins a lot of people talked about how dumb it was and that no one would care.  I think Thursday night proved that a lot of people did care (over 4,700) and a lot of people had a great time.  A lot of preseason games in sports are pointless and provide no entertainment but the opposite occurred.  We saw some goals scored, great saves, big hits and some players fighting for jobs.

The attendance may have been different if it had been a team other than the Boston Bruins but that’s why the Bruins were picked, they knew they would be a draw.  There was definitely more Bruins gear in the stands than Panthers but there was also an impressive amount of Panthers attire.

Just to also toss this out there, the last time the Sabres played a preseason game in Rochester there was only around 3,000 people at the game.  Close to 5,000 for a Panthers vs Bruins game.  Yea.  But, that’s another debate.

One of the biggest complaints about the game ahead of time was the ticket price but based [...]Read More

Panthers Call up Oreskovich and Ellerby

October 31, 2009 - By

The Florida Panthers booked Victor Oreskovich and Keaton Ellerby on a plane this morning to join the team in St Louis to increase the recent callups from the Rochester Americans to five players.  Earlier in the week Kenndal McArdle, Michal Repik, and Jeff Taffe were called up.

Ellerby was called up to play in place of Bryan Allen who has not played consecutive nights as he recovers from his knee surgery.  No idea if Allen is ever going to be 100% to play consecutive games this season.  Keaton has been playing some great hockey lately, possibly his best since turning pro.  He’s skating fast and smooth and controlling the puck as well.  He’s stopping shots and clearing the puck without turning it over.

Oreskovich being called up was a bit of a surprise.  He’s a great player and you’d never know watching him that he took two years off.  Oreskovich had two assists in Saturday nights Amerks 4-2 win over the Binghamton Senators.  He’s a hard hitting player who has great control of the puck once it’s on his stick.

No idea at this time who he’s being called up to replace, but it’s obvious the [...]Read More

Panthers Call up Jason Garrison

October 24, 2008 - By

The Florida Panthers called up rookie defensemen Jason Garrison from the Rochester Americans after Friday nights game against the Quad City Flames.  Garrison has been the leading defensemen for the Amerks in the first six games of the season with a goal and three assists.

He’ll be a temporary replacement for Bryan Allen who is going to be out indefinetly for the Panthers because of knee surgery.  Garrison said he’ll be back next weekend, which leads us to believe the Panthers will probably be signing Jason Cullimore.
