Season High 44 Shots and Standup Defense Leads Amerks to Win

The way the game started out on Wednesday night against the Syracuse Crunch the game could have gone completely in favor of the Crunch or it could’ve been one of the fastest games of all time.  Once the puck dropped around 7:05pm the first whistle wasn’t until five minutes and 13 seconds into the game.  During that period the Crunch put most of the pressure on the Amerks but by the time the game was over the Amerks had won the game by the final score of 3-2 for their fourth win in a row.

There were a lot of great plays and players on the ice but three that stuck out were all defensemen.  The three defensemen were Joe Finley, Shaone Morrisonn and TJ Brennan.  That’s not meant to take away from anyone else but those three made big differences in the game.  Finley and Morrisonn have become the top two defensemen for the Amerks and play the position very well.  They aren’t allowing quality shots on the net by forcing the plays along the outside and they’re also showing they can jump into a rush when needed.

Shortly after the game started Patrick Maroon of the Crunch was [...]Read More

Crunch Tackled Two Goal Deficit but McNabb’s First Won it in OT for Amerks

The Amerks win in overtime over the Syracuse Crunch on Sunday night had a little bit of everything, from wanting to ship the team out of the arena to jumping up and down celebrating a dramatic overtime win.  It was a game that the team battled for and found a way to redeem themselves after a poor performance in Saturdays 5-2 loss to the Crunch.

“Tonight was a huge character win for us, we stuck with itt for 60 minutes,” Colin Stuart said postgame.  ”We had a few mistakes but that’s to be expected in our game.  It’s definitely a huge positive for us to take that loss Saturday night and take it personally and come back here tonight with a win.”

“There’s a lot of pride in the room in the players, they weren’t happy with the way things went Saturday night, had a nice win in Binghamton, were flat last night and wanted to come back and finish the weekend off,” Ron Rolston said.

Five different players scored goals for the Amerks, nine players had assists during the game and they failed to product any points on the power play but made up for it with a short [...]Read More

Free Agency AHL Vets Could Complete the Amerks Lineup

Free Agency AHL Vets Could Complete the Amerks Lineup

The Hockey Holiday of July 1st has come early for Buffalo Sabres fans with the signings of free agent defensemen Robyn Regehr and Christian Ehrhoff, something almost unheard of in June out of Buffalo.  The monster contract of 10yrs and $40 million for Ehrhoff is proof that Pegula isn’t messing around and that Darcy Regier is capable of making big moves.

We should be expecting a great group of Sabres prospects in Rochester next season but the roster still has some openings in it, openings that could be filled by some of the AHL’s best veterans.  The salary of an AHL veteran can range anywhere from $105,000 to $500,000 (a one way deal but the player knows they’ll be sent down).  The fact that Pegula was willing to put $40 million on the line for a top notch NHL defenseman we (Amerks fans) can only hope that the dollar amounts for an AHL veteran equals couch cushion change for the Pegula family.

In the American Hockey League teams are allowed to have five veterans.  A veteran is (according to the PHPA), “a Player, other than a goaltender, who has played in 301 or more regular season games of professional hockey (including [...]Read More

Salak, Taylor, and Brine Lead Amerks to Win

October 23, 2009 - By

It was close near the end of the third but the Amerks stayed strong on the ice and defeated the Albany River Rats by the final score of 2-1 for their fifth straight win.  The last time the Amerks had a winning streak like this was the start of the 2006/2007 season.

The Amerks are back on the ice Saturday night in Syracuse.  The Crunch are coming off of a 4-3 win over the Binghamton Senators Friday night.  It’ll be an interesting game.  Will the Amerks road legs stay strong?  Will the Crunch have home ice advantage?  Game time is at 7:30pm EST.

Let’s enjoy every minute of this season.

Heading into the game the River Rats were a perfect on the penalty kill, they had not allowed a goal to be scored in 21 power play attempts for the opposition.  Chris Taylor ended that streak.

The power play unit of Chris Taylor, Graham Mink, Jeff Taffe, Clay Wilson, and Jason Garrison worked the puck around the Rats zone and tired them out.  They did a superb job passing the puck around, taking quick shots when they could and then regaining control.

Jason Garrison took the [...]Read More
