Amerks Announce Clear Day Roster

March 12, 2009 - By

On Thursday afternoon the Rochester Americans announce their 22 man clear day roster for the remainder of the 08/09 regular season.  It’s yet another sign that the season is quickly coming to a close.  It’s sad that hockey season is winding down, but exciting to REALLY start looking forward to next season.  That’s a whole other topic.

No surprises with the Amerks lineup.  If the team had any plans of making the playoffs this would be a lot more interesting.

Here’s the roster:

Mike Brodeur and Tyler Plante; defensemen Michael Caruso, Jason Garrison, Rory Fitzpatrick, Keaton Ellerby, Jordan Henry, Peter Aston, Franklin MacDonald, and forwards Janis Sprukts, Drew Larman, Stefan Meyer, Michael Duco, Tanner Glass, Dan Collins, Karl Stewart, Shawn Matthias, Kenndal McArdle, Michal Repik, David Brine, Randall Gelech and Riley Emmerson. Forwards Jarret Lukin, Kyle Hagel, Andrew Sweetland, Judd Blackwater and Jacob Micflikier currently remain in residence.

The rest of the AHL also announced their rosters as well.

Jordan Henry Wins Game with 30 Seconds Remaining

March 2, 2009 - By

The Rochester Americans worked hard on Sunday and it paid off with a victory on Sunday night against the Binghamton Senators.  Jordan Henry scored the game winning goal with 30 seconds remaining to give the Amerks a 3-2 win.  Tyler Plante had the following to say about the goal, “Jordan Henry looked so graceful for a second I thought he took the form of an Angel.”  Yes folks, that is a real quote!

Marc Cavosie went to the penalty box at 1:33 of the first period for tripping giving the Amerks their first of only three power play opportunities in the entire game.  The Amerks did a decent job at passing the puck with the man advantage, but that’s about all they did.  They weren’t able to get any real scoring chances, but they controlled the puck.  Binghamton didn’t record their first good shot on goal until seven minutes into the game.

Riley Emmerson and Matt Carkner dropped the mitts at 5:29 of the first period for a decent fight.  Emmerson was the winner in this one with a great quick right square in the face of Carkner.  Sorry, no video of this one (at least by us).

Amerks Defeat Marlies for Second Win of Weekend

February 22, 2009 - By

The Rochester Americans won their second game of the weekend as they defeated the Toronto Marlies by the final score of 3-1 in Toronto on Saturday afternoon.  The same two teams will be playing again on Sunday at 6:05pm in Rochester at Blue Cross Arena.

It’s a “Red Hot Sunday” where anyone wearing red can get the best seat in the house for $10.  The Amerks will also be wearing their red road jerseys for the occassion.  Make sure to wear red to join in the spirit and cheer on this team as they improve daily!

As for Saturdays game, between my work schedule and going to the Knighthawks game I wasn’t able to watch or listen to the game.  Rather than make things up and sound as if I know what happened I’ll provide the Amerks press release from the game:

AMERKS SKATE PAST MARLIES WITH 3-1 WIN IN TORONTO

When Was the Last Time The Amerks…

December 9, 2008 - By

Here’s some “fun facts” I guess you could call them about the last time certain things were achieved by or against the Rochester Americans.  A few items that stick out more than others: The last Amerk to get a hat-trick at Blue Cross arena was Stefan Meyer on December 16, 2006, nearly two years ago.  Scott McCrory was the last Amerk to score four goals in one game over 18 years ago on November 3, 1990.  It’s been less than a year since an opposing player has scored four goals against us.

One item I’ll add of my own: The Amerks have not been shutout yet this season!

Amerks had a shutout:

  • Home: Mike Brodeur vs Albany River Rats, 12/07/08 (game #24), 4-0
  • Away: Adam Dennis @ Toronto, 2/2/08 (game #51), 3-0

Amerks were shutout:

  • Home: Karl Goehring, Syracuse, 4/11/08 (game #78), 0-4
  • Away: Dan LaCosta @ Syracuse, 3/14/08 (game #365), 0-3

Amerks win in overtime:

  • Home: vs Albany, 2/20/08, (game #58), 2-1 (Anthony Stewart)
  • Away: @ Lake Erie, 3/20/08, (game #67), 5-4 (David Brine)

Amerks lose in overtime:

  • Home:vs Toronto, 2/1/08, (game #50), 2-3 (Jeremy Williams)
  • Away: @Binghamton, 3/15/08, (game [...]Read More

Amerks Win Their First Game of the Year…The Hard Work Pays Off

October 25, 2008 - By

The Rochester Americans won their first game of the season tonight against the Quad City Flames in a 5-4 victory.  Although the game really came down to the bitter end, the players put in 110% effort all night and their hard work finally payed off.

I have been at a lot of practices already this year and as you have read in my articles, I think the coaching staff is doing a far superior job than the last few years.  And I think Benoit’s “no screwing around” attitude has really given this team the need to work exceptionally hard for him.  But, I digress…

The first period of the game, the players came out to play on both sides of the ice.  Back and forth the puck went all period.  No quality shots were taken by either team and the period ended 0-0.  The Amerks were showing that they weren’t going to be taking the game lightly though.  They were immediately giving out hard hits on the boards to anyone, no matter what the size of the player.

The Flames got on the board first in the second period.  The Amerks wouldn’t stand for that for long though.  [...]Read More

Collect Amerk Player Photo's

October 21, 2008 - By

If you were able to attend the Amerks fun fest you were able to collect glossy phoot’s from each of the players.  For anyone who’s into collecting autographs and memorabilia these are excellent.  Every player has a signature pad that is a stack of the glossy photo’s of themselves that they can easily autograph and hand out to fans.

Even though the team is still struggling on the ice, things like this are one of those new items available to make it all a better “fan experience.”  The best experience comes from winning games, but we’re trying not to overlook the other improvements that are around this season as well.

Hopefully the team will be able to get trading cards made in time this season as well.

I’d expect that players will have them available as they make appearances throughout the season.  Check back to the site often and we’ll keep you updated on those appearances!

Amerks Lose 5th Straight; Familiar Story Lines

October 19, 2008 - By

The Rochester Americans lost two straight games this weekend against the Manitoba Moose and are now the only winless team in the American Hockey League.  It’s only five games into the season, morale amongst fans has already dropped, and we’re repeating the same story lines as last season.  It wasn’t supposed to be this way.

The Moose won on Saturday night 4-1, Tanner Glass scored the Amerks only goal at 10:40 of the first period.  It was assisted by Kenndal McArdle and Luke Beaverson.  It was the second goal of the season for Glass.  Chris Beckford-Tseu stopped 37 of 41 shots.

The previous night the Moose won 3-1, David Brine scored the Amerks only goal that night at 7:07 of the third.  It was assisted by Franklin MacDonald and Jason Garrison.  Tyler Plante stopped 28 of 30 shots.

The game on Friday night was tied 1-1 until the Amerks tried to clear it from deep within their own zone and Raymond Sawada kept the puck from crossing the blue line and two passes later Cullen slipped the puck under a diving Tyler Plante for the goal.

A bad mistake late in a game that was tied.  Like I said, [...]Read More

February 22, 2008 - By

David Brine has returned to the Amerks after being called up to the Panthers.
