Ellerby Called Up; MacIntyre Sick; Mike York Update

December 18, 2009 - By

It shouldn’t come as a surprise that the Florida Panthers played another game and another player was injured.  Not sure of the details but the Panthers Twitter feed said that Dmitry Kulikov left the game with a “lower body” injury.  So after the game Keaton Ellerby packed his bags and is getting called up.

Update: Adding this update an hour after the original post.. some Panther fans have stated that Jason Garrison played a rough game on Friday night.  The call up could be for Ellerby to replace Garrison.  Even if that is the case I’m not sure Garrison could rejoin the Amerks in Hershey with the huge storm hitting that area.  Garrison had originally been called up to give Bryan Allan a night off.

Steve MacIntyre left the game after his second period fight and did not return in the third period.  Benoit Groulx said after the game that MacIntyre was not feeling well and decided he wasn’t feeling well enough to return.  Groulx said that he wasn’t sure if Mac would make the trip on Saturday.

And for the last update, I’ll talk about Mike York.  Groulx was asked after the game about Yorks [...]Read More

Dvorak and Booth Injured for Florida

October 24, 2009 - By

The Amerks could see a couple of players called up this week to the Panthers.  The Florida Panthers just lost their game to the Philadelphia Flyers and had two players out injured by the end of the game.

Radek Dvorak left the game in the second period with an “upper body injury” and did not return to the game.

David Booth had to be taken off the ice on a stretcher after Mike Richards delivered a nasty hit to the head.

The next game for the Florida Panthers is on Wednesday night.   We could see Kenndal McArdle and Shawn Matthias or Michal Repik called up.

The Panthers also need to make a decision on Dmitry Kulikov by Wednesday.

10:11pm Update from George Richards:

David Booth will remain in Philly but the good news is he is awake and has movement in his extremities. Radek Dvorak may be out for a while with what looks like a left knee injury.

From George Richards:

Booth was hit in the Flyers zone and immediately hit the ice where he remained motionless for a few moments. A team doctor from the Flyers was escorted [...]Read More

The 2009/2010 season for the Rochester Americans is finally upon us.  It seems as if everyone from youth hockey all the way up to the NHL has started except for the Amerks.  The Amerks will open training camp on Thursday morning from 10am – Noon at the ESL Centre.

Some players that are expected to be at camp outside of the already signed players include: Ross Carlson, Mike Sgroi, Trevor Gillies, Cleve Kinley, and Lee Jubinville (more info below).

In case you missed the exciting summer of news you can get a recap here, “Amerks Summer News Stories, Getting Caught Up.”

Florida Panthers Rookie Camp Opens Today

September 7, 2009 - By

The Florida Panthers open their rookie camp on this morning down in Florida at Incredible ICE, but I prefer to call it the warm up to Amerks training camp on September 24th!

A number of players were in Rochester this past week prior to heading down to Florida including David Brine who tossed out the first pitch at the Rochester Red Wings baseball game on Friday night.  With camp starting the season now even closer.

“The rookie camp provides our coaching staff the opportunity to work with our prospects in an environment that enhances skill development and accelerates the process to play in the NHL,” Florida Panthers Assistant General Manger Randy Sexton said. “This camp focuses on high-tempo on-ice and off-ice workouts that will prepare our prospects to compete in pre-season competition.”

Here’s a list of players that will be at the camp and their positions:

Defense: Keaton Ellerby, Dmitry Kulikov, Colby Robak, Jason Garrison, Adam Comrie, Michael Caruso

Right Wing: Michal Repik, Brady Calla, James DeLory, Evgeny Dadonov

Left Wing: Garrett Wilson, Kenndal McArdle, Mike Duco, Andrew Sweetland

Florida Panthers Draft Defenseman Dmitry Kulikov

June 26, 2009 - By

The Florida Panthers drafted defenseman Dmitry Kulikov with their first round pick (14th overall) in this years NHL draft.  Kulikov is only 18 years old which means he would not appear in an Amerks uniform until at least the 2010-2011 season.  The 2008-2009 season in the QMJHL with Drummondville was his first in North America.  He moved to North America to learn the game with the goal of playing in the NHL.

Kulikov will be competing with Keaton Ellerby and Jason Garrison for a spot on the Panthers roster out of training camp in September.  It’s not likely that Kulikov will be ready for the NHL, but it was draft day so Scott Luce hyped him up.  That’s what you’re supposed to do, sell the player you just drafted in the first round.

If the Amerks can get a veteran player on defense next season it will help add some stability to a solid blue line.  It’s rumored that former Amerk Doug Janik could be returning.

The defensive core for the Rochester Americans includes Rory Fitzpatrick, Keaton Ellerby, Jason Garrison, Michael Caruso, Matt Duffy, and Jordan Henry.  Peter Aston and Luke Beaverson will also be competing for a spot on [...]Read More
