Gameday: Amerks Home vs Heat; Panther Trades

February 12, 2010 - By

Going to keep this short and sweet today, the Amerks start a three game stretch tonight with a home game against the Abbotsford Heat.  To say it’s a “must win” is probably an understatement.  The Amerks have lost the past three Friday night home games and none of the games have been exciting.  It’s a new day though and a new day for some excitement.  I hope.

The game plan should be pretty simple, play like your job is on the line.  That is if by the time the game starts some players still have a job with the Florida Panthers organization.  Randy Sexton said on Thursday night that “no one is off limits” as they try and make changes to a roster that is highly doubtful to make the playoffs.  The Panthers already made one move on Thursday trading Dominic Moore to the Montreal Canadiens for a 2nd round pick in 2011.

The pre-Olympic deadline is 3pm.  Any move could directly impact the Amerks if the Panthers need to call someone up to take the spot of a traded player or even one of the prospects here being traded.  We’ll see what happens.

Panthers Recall Jason Garrison; Amerks vs Crunch Tuesday

December 14, 2009 - By

It shouldn’t come as a surprise to Amerks fans that the Panthers played another game and have called up another player, this time it’s Jason Garrison.

Jordan Leopold was hit by a shot on Saturday night and is hobbled by a sore leg or foot. It’s possible he’ll be fine and Garrison will fly back to Rochester on Tuesday.

Dominic Moore participated in the Monday morning skate and could play tonight. Hopefully that happens and we could see Repik sent back on Tuesday as well.

Update 1:08pm — apparently Moore and Leopold will play tonight so we should have Garrison and one other player back for Tuesday.

Based on how the season is going though chances are someone else will get injured tonight and more changes will happen.

If you have not seen or heard all of the announcements, the Amerks have a game on Tuesday night Dec 15th at 7:05pm vs the Syracuse Crunch. The game was originally scheduled for January 27th.

Another Panthers Injury, Michal Repik Called Up

December 11, 2009 - By

It really shouldn’t come as a surprise to Amerks fans anymore that after the Florida Panthers play a game chances are they’ll experience another injury.  It happened again on Friday night when Dominic Moore essentially stabbed himself with his stick.  The result was Michal Repik being called up after the Amerks loss on Friday night.

The Panthers lineup is starting to resemble the Amerks lineup at the start of the season.  Repik will join Shawn Matthias, Mike Duco, Jeff Taffe, and Victor Oreskovich.

It’s frustrating to Amerks fans and we just have to hope this is happening now and does not continue later in the season.  Unfortunately that’s probably a high hope.

The only other players with the Amerks that could fill in on Saturday night are Peter Aston and James DeLory.  I asked Benoit Groulx after the game Friday night if DeLory would play and he just said that he did not know and moved on to the next question.

I’ve been told DeLory is just here to work with Steve MacIntyre, but for him to not even get a mention seems like he’s really bad or he’s just stuck here and they can’t find [...]Read More

Jeff Taffe Gets Another Call Up

November 3, 2009 - By

Jeff Taffe The Panthers next game is Wednesday night against the Carolina Hurricanes and Jeff Taffe is headed to the airport to join the big club again.

Updated 6:12pm: Apparently Dominic Moore is not ready to return from the nasal surgery he had to help fix his broken nose.  I had originally speculated he was sent down as a cost saving measure to save the team from having to pay him an NHL salary.

It seems as if I need to just write two standard articles titled “Taffe called up” and “Taffe sent down” to quickly put up throughout the season.

The Amerks next game is Friday night against the Syracuse Crunch, he could be back to Rochester by then.  Based on this past weekends game against the Binghamton Senators we could use him but I think the team will do just fine.

Jeff Taffe Called Up

October 29, 2009 - By

The Florida Panthers have recalled Jeff Taffe from the Rochester Americans. While the Amerks are on a hot streak the Panthers are in need of help. More later, not too easy posting from a blackberry.

Updated 8:03pm… Finally home and in front of a computer.  As posted earlier Taffe was called up to fill in for Dominic Moore who is undergoing nasal surgery.  Moore is expected to be out for about a week and return next Wednesday Nov 4th.

Moore had his nose broken in last weeks game vs the Flyers and has been wearing a full cage.

Taffe was signed by the Panthers over the summer to a two year contract, the first year being two way and the second year one way.  Taffe can play up to 10 games or 30 days before he’d have to clear waivers to be sent back down.

The Amerks play on the road Friday night against the Binghamton Senators.  With Taffe flying out of town to john McArdle and Repik we’ll get to see what this Amerks team is capable of.  A “championship” team should be able to play through injuries and call ups.

I’ll be there in [...]Read More
