Joe Finley vs Kyle Neuber Fight Video

This past Friday night the Toronto Marlies defeated the Rochester Americans in overtime by the final score of 2-1 and in the second period Joe Finley and Kyle Neuber dropped the mitts in the fight below.  After the game Finley was called up to the Buffalo Sabres to fill in for an injured Brayden McNabb and he went on to fight Matt Martin of the New York Islanders.

I apologize about the black and white like quality of the video but it’s the best I could get from the AHL Live site.

Video of Conboy’s Hit on Turnbull and Fight vs Finley

Video of Conboy’s Hit on Turnbull and Fight vs Finley

Late in the second period Tim Conboy of the Binghamton Senators dropped Travis Turnbull of the Rochester Americans with a hit to the head that sent Turnbull to the ice and out of the game.  Moments after the hit Joe Finley challenged Conboy and the two shared a couple of punches.  Not sure why Finley took off skating backwards instead of just going at it where they were.

Turnbull slowly went off the ice and the game was over for him at that point.  He went flying down to the ice, his helmet went in the air and his gloves were knocked off.

Earlier in the game towards the end of the first period they each received unsportsmanlike penalties for something but I didn’t see what happend.  Did anyone see it?  They didn’t appear to get along and Conboy got the hit in late in the game.

Conboy and Finley each received a five minute penalty for fighting and Conboy received a 10 minute match penalty for a “check to the head.”  Here’s what the AHL rule book says about the call:

48.5 Match Penalty – The Referee, at his discretion, may assess a match penalty if, in his judgment, [...]Read More

Zack Kassian and Marcus Foligno Fight Video

During the third period of the Amerks 7-2 win over the Grand Rapids Griffins this fight broke out on the ice.  Foligno was being given a boarding penalty for a hit just before this fight broke out. Marcus Foligno vs Travis Ehrhardt on one side, Zack Kassian vs Garnet Exelby on the other.  Late at getting the camera up and recording and trying to fit both in at once.

Not bad for these two rookies!  They can skate, pass, score goals and dropped the gloves.

That picture of Kassian, is he going for the Beetlejuice or Ogie Oglethorpe look for Halloween?

Eric Selleck and James DeLory Square off in Training Camp

Eric Selleck and James DeLory Square off in Training Camp

The first day of training camp usually isn’t all that exciting as players and coaches are just going through some drills, getting to know each other and getting their legs stretched.  James DeLory and Eric Selleck made it interesting though when about half way through they dropped their gloves and helmets to try and trade a few punches by the visitors bench.  As you can see in the quick video they squared off but didn’t get far before Amerks head coach Chuck Weber and assistant coach Jason Cipolla stepped in to break them up.

Chuck Weber was pretty vocal on the ice afterwards telling DeLory that he told them no fighting.  After practice Weber said that DeLory had surgery over the summer (didn’t say what kind of surgery) and didn’t want him getting into any fights.  He said that he knows guys are itching to go but he didn’t want it to happen.  Weber also commented that DeLory apologized after practice… and everyone lives happily ever after.

This will be DeLory’s third training camp with the Amerks and is likely looking to make his name known and try to move up a level in professional hockey.  I didn’t have the [...]Read More

Bonneau and Lord Fight Videos vs Crunch

April 11, 2010 - By

As expected on Saturday night there was a lot of hard hits and some fights during the game.  Jimmy Bonneau and Jon Mirasty have had some of the best fights all season and wrapped things up with another good one.  Anyone who follows AHL hockey knows how much a lot of people dislike Kevin Harvey so it was not surprising to see him in a fight, this time against Andrew Lord.

Lord should have no problems getting invited to a training camp somewhere next season.

The only video I don’t currently have is what happened with about eight seconds left in the second period.  Earlier in the period Carl Hudson hit Maksim Mayorov hard into the boards and Mayorov appeared to go to the bench injured.  As the period was coming to an end Mirasty went after Hudson, didn’t get anything going, he then went after Michael Caruso and then pulled Jordan Henry out of the mixup and tried to fight him.  As Mirasty punched Caruso the Amerks bench jumped up to his defense.  As Mirasty pulled Henry down the boards it was of no surprise that Harvey reached over the boards and appeared to get in a couple shots [...]Read More

End of Game Video; Suspensions Possible for MacIntyre and Others

March 14, 2010 - By

There’s no other way to say it other than the Syracuse Crunch and the Rochester Americans seem to really dislike each other.  The Crunch and their fans hate Alexander Salak when he celebrates at the end of the game. Kevin Harvey is also a well known rat around the league that a lot of players dislike.

(video below at the bottom of post)

The Amerks dislike for Harvey goes back to earlier in the season when he laid out a dirty hit on Luke Beaverson which resulted in Beaverson being out injured for 26 games.  Steve MacIntyre apparently cross checked Harvey up high which resulted on Harvey laying on the ice for a couple minutes.  They didn’t show it on TV so I can’t really say what happened, but it’s easy to say that with a 5-1 lead at the time MacIntyre decided it was time to take action.

MacIntyre was assessed a penalty for Attempt/Deliberate injury (21.1), which according to the rule books is the following:

21.1 Match Penalty – A match penalty involves the suspension of a player for the balance of the game and the offender shall be ordered to the dressing room immediately.

A player incurring [...]Read More

Friday Night Fights Featuring MacIntyre and Bonneau

March 13, 2010 - By

The game on Friday night between the Rochester Americans and Albany River Rats took less than 12 minutes before the two teams proved they were not going to be pushed around by the other.  Steve MacIntyre set the pace early with a huge hit on Casey Borer behind the Rats net and from then on it was a physical first period.  That type of hit is what fans would love to see more of.  A big hard clean hit.

Steve MacIntyre vs Zack FitzGerald at 11:17 of the first period:

The Amerks are on the road on Saturday night against the Syracuse Crunch, a team they’ve beaten eight times already this season.  The Crunch will be looking for redemption on home ice and I’m sure Mirasty will be looking for a rematch against MacIntyre.  Unfortunately I will not be at the game, hopefully someone else will to get some video!

McArdle Injured in Fight with Smith, Video Included

February 15, 2010 - By

The Amerks had a 1-0 lead at the start of the second period and both teams were trying to take control and momentum, so what better time for a couple of players to put one a popular and enjoyable staged fight.  The two players to drop the gloves were Kenndal McArdle and Zack Smith.  Unfortunately Smith got the upper hand on McArdle and McArdle had to leave the game injured and did not return.  McArdle left the arena with one eye puffed up and his arm in a sling, not a good sign.

I could be wrong, but with McArdle having just missed a long stretch with a shoulder injury this season and also last season I wouldn’t expect him back quickly.

Jimmy Bonneau vs Garrett Klotz Fight Video

January 31, 2010 - By

It comes as no surprise that Jimmy Bonneau returns to the lineup and he’s in a fight in front of the home crowd.  After Jordan Henry scored to put the Amerks up 1-0 these two dropped their gloves after the face off.  Klotz appeared to be ready for the fight but once they locked up he did not want to let go.

The major penalty was the 21st of the season for Bonneau which puts him two behind Louis Robitaille and he is still two ahead of Jon Mirasty.  It’s hard to imagine at one point Bonneau was released from the team before being brought back.  Not only does Bonneau provide some muscle on the ice he’s constantly talking things up when he’s on the bench as well.  A solid played that we can only hope is brought back again next season.

Mike Duco vs Tim Wallace Fight Video

January 23, 2010 - By

The puck barely touched the ice on Saturday night when Mike Duco and Tim Wallace dropped their mitts to continue the battle the two of them seem to have going.  A good way to create a spark to start the game and try and get some blood flowing on the bench.

The last time the Amerks and Penguins played on November 27th the two players fought as well, here’s that video:

The two teams play one more time on March 20 in Wilkes-Barre, we’ll have to see if they go for the hat trick.

Jimmy Bonneau vs Ryan Stokes Fight Video

January 9, 2010 - By

The Amerks were down and in need of a spark and that’s what Bonneau was trying to do. In the second period he put Logan Pyett hard into the boards. Pyett was very slow getting up and went right to the bench. Later in the period he leveled Evan McGrath at the blue line and Ryan Stokes was immediately on him to drop the gloves. We’ve questioned here in Rochester how much the coach has said to not drop the gloves and if that’s the case Bonneau did the next best thing, forced the other team to do it first.

Unfortunately his fight did nothing to spark the Amerks and the Grand Rapids Griffins won 6-3.
