Prospects in the Everblades
The Florida Everblades are the ECHL affiliate of the Florida Panthers and Carolina Hurricanes. They are also the AHL affiliate of the Rochester Americans and Albany River Rats.
The Everblades start their 08/09 regular season on Friday night against the Charlotte Checkers. Incidentally, the Checkers just sign Amerks alumni Sean McMorrow.
A number of players on this years Amerks roster spent time last season with the Everblades, including Franklin MacDonald, Tyler Plante, Dan Collins, Kenndal McArdle, Jordan Henry, and Peter Aston.
The number of players associated with the Everblades this season is lighter as the Panthers are the sole affiliate of the Amerks. While sharing an affiliation with the Sabres last season in Rochester, they were able to keep many players with the Everblades.
The Panthers only prospect currently slated to play with the Everblades is James DeLory. DeLory is currently recovering from a concussion, once he’s healed from that he will officially be on the Blades roster.
Jacob Micflikier was invited to Amerks camp and was reassigned to the Everblades.
Yannick Tifu is also playing for the Everblades this season, he was signed to a PTO towards the end of the 07/08 season with the Amerks. He played in [...]Read More

David Shantz was recalled from the Florida Everblades on Thursday to the Florida Panthers. The Florida Everblades are set to open their regular season on Friday night. It’s assumed that the Panthers have made this move to loan him out to another ECHL team.
Houston Aeros Assistant General Manager Troy G. Ward announced today that goaltender Anton Khudobin has been loaned to ECHL Florida Everblades, which would give the Blades a second goaltender.
David Shantz started the 07/08 season with the Rochester Americans before being reassigned to the Everblades. He played in 14 games with the Amerks and had a record of 1-10-1. His GAA was 4.07 and save pct was 0.863. While his stats weren’t the best, he was also the product of a bad team in front of him.
When he was reassigned to the Everblades he played in 20 games, had a record of 11-5-3 with a 2.56 GAA and 0.916 save pct.
Rumors have been swirling that the Amerks are interested in LW Riley Emersson who currently plays for the Everblades but is property of the Minnesota Wild, this could be part of something in the works. Emersson is 6’8″ and 246lbs and a known [...]Read More
A Chance to Watch The Florida Everblades
If you’re like us and start planning hockey road trips early, you may be interested in marking your calendar for Wednesday December 3, 2008 when the Florida Everblades will be nearby to play the Elmira Jackals. It’s the only game scheduled between the two teams. Elmira is a roughly two hour drive from Rochester.
The Florida Everblades are affiliated with the Florida Panthers. Typically if the Panthers are required to call a player up from the AHL they will replace that player with a prospect they have with the Everblades. Early in the 07/08 season the Panthers called Tyler Plante up from the Everblades and sent David Schantz down. Also towards the end of the season players Kenndal McArdle, Peter Aston, Franklin MacDonald, and Adam Taylor had been reassigned to the Blades to assist with there playoff run.
We’ll be keeping an eye on players with the Everblades in the ECHL more during the coming season.
The Everblades are also affiliated with the Carolina Hurricanes (NHL), Albany River Rats (AHL), and the Plymouth Whalers (OHL).
The Everblades are thought of to be model franchise for the ECHL, as they have not missed the playoffs in each of their nine seasons, and making [...]Read More

New Goalie Helmet for Tyler Plante
Goaltender Tyler Plante recently had his helmet painted and is quite possibly the most amusing of any professional goalie. While many goalies go for art work featuring details about the team and city they play in, Tyler dedicated his helmet to “the funniest man alive,” and two of his favorite movies, Blades of Glory and Talladega Nights.
The helmet was painted by professional Dan Lessard who has painted a lot of goalie masks, check out his web site to see more of his work.
Tylers favorite quote is, “if you ain’t, first you’re last.” He said he hasn’t quoted Will Ferrell at all during games, but we encourage him to do so.
Tyler Plante is a prospect of the Florida Panthers who is currently playing in the ECHL for the Florida Everblades. He played one game this season for the Amerks, but we’re expecting to see more of him in Rochester before the end of the season.
Edit 4/10/2009: This has become the most popular post on this site and written at a time when we were still new to all of this. Not much meat to the story, but the pictures speak for themselves.
