AHL Division Finals Preview

April 29, 2009 - By

The Amerks season ended about two and a half weeks ago but the season continues for eight other teams in the American Hockey League.  The Division Finals started on Tuesday night with the Providence Bruins defeating the Worcester Sharks by the final score of 3-2 in OT.

The question to be asked though is, outside of the eight cities competing for the Calder Cup, does anyone else really care or know the games are going on?

The first round of the Stanley Cup finals have been very exciting to watch, the second round is even more highly anticipated.

How was the first round in the American Hockey League?  No idea. Highlights are available for free on the AHL Live site.  A lot of players currently in the NHL playoffs have played in the AHL at some point (even this season), why can’t the league get highlights mixed in with NHL highlights anywhere of future stars?

Here’s a preview of the Division Finals from the league:

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. … The original field of 16 has been reduced to eight as the Division Finals round of the 2009 Calder Cup Playoffs got underway on Tuesday night.

Amerks Pickup First Road Win in Houston

December 10, 2008 - By

The Amerks were able to mess with Texas and pickup their first road win of the season tonight in a 2-1 shootout against the Houston Aeros.  Jacob Micflikier scored the winning goal in the shootout and Mike Brodeur had another stellar game in goal.

Brodeur saved 26 of 27 shots through the end of overtime and then three of four Houston shots in the shootout.  Could he be the answer we’ve been looking for to try and salvage the season?  After playing in three games it sure does seem that way.  Having a goalie the team can count on may give the defense some more confidence, now if only the offense can put the pack past opposing goalies.. we may start, dare I say it, a winning streak!

Dan Collins scored the Amerks only goal of the game and his fifth of the season at 17:30 of the first period, assists to Mike Duco and David Brine.

The power play goal by Maxim Noreau was the only goal of the game for the Houston Aeros.  The Aeros were one for six on the power play.  On the flip side, the Amerks had seven power play opportunities, including a five on [...]Read More

Amerks Picked up the Towel, Win 3-2

November 9, 2008 - By

The Rochester Americans won only their second game of the season tonight beating the Houston Aeros by the final score of 3-2.  The combined five goals were all scored in the third period.  The Amerks had a three goal lead with less than three minutes remaining in the game.  It got close towards the end, but they held on.

The team did everything they were supposed to tonight.  Big saves from goaltender Chris Beckford-Tseu.  A solid defensive game.  A hard hitting game.  Also a very responsible game when it came to penalties.

All three goals were scored by those expected to score goals.  Stefan Meyer scored his first of the season.  Kenndal McArdle scored his third of the season.  Rookie Shawn Matthias also scored his third of the season, and second in two nights.  He went fast into the Aeros end and continued through to the net until the puck was in the net.

After apparently throwing in the towel on Friday night, it was picked up after all of the church groups left the arena sometime after midnight on Friday.

It was an exciting game of hockey.  Feels awesome to say that!!  It was also [...]Read More
