Crunch Talk Trash, Salak Has the Last Laugh

November 29, 2009 - By

Alexander Salak picked up his 14th win of the season Sunday afternoon in Syracuse and in doing so he made some new friends.  I’m sure there are a lot of goalies that are vocal, Martin Biron being the most popular, but Alexander Salak is making a name for himself with every game that he plays.

Below is a recap of an incident that happened during the game along with the Crunch trash talking to the media about the Amerks.  The Amerks ultimately have the last laugh.  They’ve won all six games against the Crunch this season outscoring them 26-12.  Four of those 12 goals were scored in Sundays game.

Bates Battaglia tipped a shot at 10:10 of the second period on a power play that was a disputed goal.  Referee Jean Hebert waived it off as no goal but the goal judge flicked on the light indicating that it was.

Alexander Salak says that the puck went from post to post never crossing the goal line.

The play went on and as it ended Hebert reviewed the call with the goal judge and indicated that yes it was a goal.  That was the first goal of [...]Read More

Amazing Save by Rochester Americans Goalie Alexander Salak

November 26, 2009 - By

On this day I’m thankful for a lot of things in life, since I write about the Rochester Americans on this web site one of the things that I will be thankful for is goaltender Alexander Salak and what he brings to this team.

Salak continues to impress us every game that he plays.  Just when you think he’s made an amazing save he makes yet another one.  On Friday November 20 against the Syracuse Crunch he made this spectacular save with his blocker hand.  The puck was passed across the ice to Jared Aulin of the Syracuse Crunch and Salak dropped his stick, dove across the crease and caught the puck with his blocker hand.

My first reaction was that he did an amazing job covering up the puck and “tricking” the ref and goal judge into thinking the puck did not cross.  After watching the replay it’s obvious he made the save.

Not only did he catch the puck with his hand but he also managed to tuck it under his stomach as he fell to the ice and kept it from crossing the line.

After the game Amerks head coach Benoit Groulx talked [...]Read More

Weekend Home Games: Amerks vs Crunch and Marlies

November 6, 2009 - By

After what seems like an eternity since last weekends road win in Binghamton the Amerks are finally back to action tonight against the Syracuse Crunch.  On Saturday night they’ll take on the Toronto Marlies.

The last time the Amerks and Crunch played was October 25th when Amerks shutout the Crunch 3-0.  That same game ended with a total of 54 minutes in penalties in the last 10 seconds of the game.

Rochester is currently tied for first place in the league with the Manchester Monarchs at 19 points.  The team certainly does not take their eight game winning streak for granted and they’re certainly not acting over confident.  That will be tested tonight when they play a Syracuse Crunch team that is short on players.

Derek MacKenzie and Alexandre Picard were called up this week by the Columbus Blue Jackets and center Jared Aulin is out of the lineup with a hand injury.  Simon Ferguson was signed to a PTO by the Crunch to join the team for some needed help.

During the 2008/2009 season some teams seemed to take the Amerks lightly and the games were close, that’s something that could happen in reverse [...]Read More

Amerks Lose Second Preseason Game

September 28, 2009 - By

Brent Regner, Dan LaCosta, and Jamie Johnson

Something familiar happened on Sunday evening, the Amerks lost to the Crunch.  The final score was 4-1, the fourth goal was on an empty net.

If you showed up to the game expecting to see some finesse hockey you would have been let down.  The games going on in the other rinks were probably smoother than this one.

The game was sloppy, was all over the place, had little chemistry, and also had some guys trying to show themselves off more than trying to work together as a team.

We just need to remember, it’s only the preseason.  These players have only skated together a couple of times with there first real practice together Sunday morning for a short gameday skate.

After the game head coach Benoit Groulx said, “To me it’s an exhibition game.  We have alot of things that we need to put together and we’ll keep working at it.”

“Tonight we’re missing so many guys still with the Panthers like Repik, Duco, and Taffe.  Tonight we tried something and obviously it’s too early to get an idea,” is how Benoit Groulx replied to a question [...]Read More
