Crunch Finally Defeat the Amerks, In Game Number 80

April 11, 2010 - By

The game on Saturday night meant absolutely nothing to the Rochester Americans.  A win against the Crunch would have been a great way to end the season with a complete sweep of the ten games between the two teams but it wasn’t meant to be, the Crunch won the game 5-2.

The supposed plan was to start Alexander Salak in the game but I don’t think that was ever going to happen.  Even if Tyler Plante did not get called up I think someone else would have been brought in to start in net for the Amerks.  With nothing on the line and the Crunch with a strong dislike for both goalies it was obvious that something would have happened.

Jon Mirasty spent time during the warmups chirping at Salak but Salak didn’t give him the time of day.  Maybe if those players spent less time worried about trying to intimidate their opponents during warmups they’d be in the playoffs instead of scheduling locker cleanout day.

Alex Petizian was the unfortunate goaltender to get the call and make this is his first professional game.  The game will either scar him for life [...]Read More

Bonneau and Lord Fight Videos vs Crunch

6
April 11, 2010 - By

As expected on Saturday night there was a lot of hard hits and some fights during the game.  Jimmy Bonneau and Jon Mirasty have had some of the best fights all season and wrapped things up with another good one.  Anyone who follows AHL hockey knows how much a lot of people dislike Kevin Harvey so it was not surprising to see him in a fight, this time against Andrew Lord.

Lord should have no problems getting invited to a training camp somewhere next season.

The only video I don’t currently have is what happened with about eight seconds left in the second period.  Earlier in the period Carl Hudson hit Maksim Mayorov hard into the boards and Mayorov appeared to go to the bench injured.  As the period was coming to an end Mirasty went after Hudson, didn’t get anything going, he then went after Michael Caruso and then pulled Jordan Henry out of the mixup and tried to fight him.  As Mirasty punched Caruso the Amerks bench jumped up to his defense.  As Mirasty pulled Henry down the boards it was of no surprise that Harvey reached over the boards and appeared to get in a couple shots [...]Read More

Bonneau Suspended One Game, MacIntyre Indefinitely

March 15, 2010 - By

As expected, Jimmy Bonneau was suspended for one game and Steve MacIntyre is suspended pending further review.  It all started back on November 6th when Kevin Harvey said he finished his check which resulted in Luke Beaverson missing 26 games with a shoulder injury.

Bonneau was given an automatic one game suspension for his third game misconduct and he served that game on Sunday.  It was the same reason Jon Mirasty sat out the game for the Crunch against the Amerks on Saturday.

We should learn more early in the week how long Steve MacIntyre will be suspended for.  The league will need to review the play (if there is video of it), read the report from the referee and base the decision on other similar calls from the past.  The only call I’m familiar with was Kevin Harvey getting five games for his hit on Luke Beaverson.

I have to imagine they’ll also take a look at what actually happened to Kevin Harvey which was nothing.

“He was down like he was done for the year and all of a sudden ready to go again,” Benoit Groulx said on Sunday.

Apparently MacIntyre cross checked Henry in the neck [...]Read More

Epic Battle: Steve MacIntyre vs Jon Mirasty Fight Video

November 21, 2009 - By

The fight everyone had anticipated finally happened at 8:14 of the third period.  Steve MacIntyre finally dropped the gloves in the corner with Jon Mirasty and the two traded a number of blows back and forth.

I was not able to make it into the locker room after the game for interviews, but Lindsay Kramer always covers these kinds of things and did a great job as always.

Fight video at the bottom!

Here’s what Kramer wrote after the game:

The Crunch also got a great fight from Jon Mirasty, who played a cat-and-mouse game with new Amerks enforcer Steve MacIntyre until the 6-foot-6, 260-pound MacIntyre finally dropped the gloves for a long battle in the third.

Mirasty slipped early in the bout, popped back up and traded blows while the linesmen were occupied escorting other players to the penalty box. The fight lasted at least two or three minutes.

“All in all, it was not bad,’’ Mirasty said. “I thought it was a good fight. I don’t think any guy had an edge. When I went down, it was more of a slip. I popped back up.”

Mirasty tried to get [...]Read More

"Big Mac" Is Ready to Play Some Hockey.. and Fight

November 18, 2009 - By

I have not been around the Rochester Americans for very long but I do have to wonder if Steve MacIntyre is one of the biggest player to ever wear an Amerks uniform.  Big Mac as he’s also known stands at about 6′ 6″ and at least 265 pounds.  There are other players that are tall, but this guy is just big.  Seeing this guy on the ice and standing next to him is intimidating.

It’s hard to believe that after the first regular season game the Amerks released Jimmy Bonneau and we were concerned about the team going forward without an “enforcer.”  Here we are after 16 games and Jimmy Bonneau has made a case for himself to be ranked as a heavyweight and now Steve MacIntyre has joined the team.

Steve MacIntyre was a big signing in July 2008 by the Florida Panthers for the Amerks.  He was signed to a two year two way contract with the intention of him playing in Rochester.  That quickly changed on the first day of Amerks training camp September 30, 2008.  When the Panthers sent MacIntyre to the Amerks he had to clear waivers, which is 24 hours.  [...]Read More

Round 6 Video of Bonneau vs Mirasty

November 7, 2009 - By

Jimmy Bonneau vs SenatorsIf there’s a game between the Rochester Americans and Syracuse Crunch it’s a given that Jimmy Bonneau and Jon Mirasty will fight at some point in the game.  These two are proving to be a great matchup with Bonneau getting closer and closer to clearly winning a fight.  They have now fought five times in the regular season and fought once during the preseason.  Luke Beaverson and Mike Duco also got into fights, I will have those uploaded and posted Sunday morning.

Here’s the video from Friday nights latest bout:

Chris Taylor Strikes Again, Amerks Win in OT

1
November 7, 2009 - By

The Amerks made some mistakes and learned a valuable lesson tonight but in the end got what mattered most, a win and two points in the standings.  The Syracuse Crunch made a strong comeback after being down 3-0 heading into the third period and then scoring the tying goal with 14 seconds left in regulation to force overtime.

Chris Taylor saved the game scoring the game winning goal in overtime to extend the Amerks winning streak to nine games.  The win tied the record from the 1999-2000 season, the last time the Amerks won nine games.

Alexander Salak showed tonight that he is human after all allowing three goals on 29 shots.  He played a great game, the Crunch just found a way to finally beat him.

Mike Duco scored his first goal of the season at 9:15 of the first period.  Jason Garrison fired a hard shot from the blue line and Duco was in front of the net to get the rebound and back hand it past Crunch goaltender Kevin LaLande.

The second goal was scored when LaLande had gone behind the net to play the puck when Duco came from one side and [...]Read More

Salak Earns his First Shutout in Amerks 7th Straight Win

1
October 26, 2009 - By

10/25/2009.. Alexander Salak earned his first professional shutout and led the Rochester Americans to a 3-0 win over the goon squad known as the Syracuse Crunch.

It was the Amerks seventh win in a row and also their fourth win in five nights and they’re not showing any signs of slowing down.

With the win the Amerks are now in sole possesion of first place in the American Hockey League with 17 points.

Graham Mink scored the game winning goal at 2:45 of the first period with assists to Mike Caruso and Chris Taylor.

Caruso retrieved his own shot that went wide of the net and around the boards.  He grabbed the puck at the blue line and dumped it back in right to Mink who was all alone to score.

“I don’t know where the defensemen went,” Mink  said.  “He was there and maybe he was jumping into the rush. Caruso made a great play and I had enough time for the goalie to go down and get it over him.”

Jimmy Bonneau and Jon Mirasty fought for the third time in less than 24 hours at the half way mark of the first period.  [...]Read More

Sunday Evening Amerks vs Crunch Fight Videos

1
October 26, 2009 - By

Jon MirastyA game between the Rochester Americans and Syracuse Crunch is going to be a physical game and will likely have a fight or two.  Sunday evening in Rochester that’s exactly what happened.

Jimmy Bonneau fought Jon Mirasty twice and looked beat up after the game.  He said the last time his face was like that was after he broke his orbital bone.

“My face is beat up and I’m tired,” Bonneau said.  “But my heads fine, my hands are fine, and my legs are fine so i’m ready to go.”

Bonneau is currently with the Amerks on a PTO but is working hard to show he deserves a contract.

Gameday: Amerks Close out Weekend at Home vs Crunch

October 25, 2009 - By

The Amerks are back at home today to play against the Syracuse Crunch and close out their first long stretch of games this season.  The Amerks are wrapping up four games in five nights and have so far played well in all of the games.  Last week we knew this weekend would be a test and the team passed with flying colors.

Michal Repik scored the overtime game winning goal Saturday night in Syracuse to extend the Amerks winning streak to six games, the teams longest winning streak since the start of the 2006/2007 season.  It was also the Amerks first regular season road win in Syracuse since April 2007.

Missed last nights game?  Here’s the recap.

Update 12:39pm Sunday afternoon: The Florida Panthers sent Jason Garrison back to the Rochester Americans, he should be back in the lineup tonight.

If you did not have plans to go to tonights game you should stop what you’re doing and get to the game.  The team has a couple of great promotions for the game, “Sweets in the Suites and Red Hot Sundays.”  The game is at 5pm.  You’ll still have plenty of time to get [...]Read More

Amerks Come Back to Win in Over Time

October 24, 2009 - By

Michal Repik scored the game winner in OT to extend the Amerks winning streak to six games with a come from behind victory in Syracuse on Saturday night.  The Amerks were down 2-0 in the first period but found a way to come back and win the game 3-2 in overtime.

3:33 into the first period Jon Mirasty layed a huge hit on Beaverson against the boards.  There was no penalty called but Jimmy Bonneau was also on the ice and quick to go after Mirasty and get a fight going.  Mirasty should have been given a boarding penalty on that hit.

Tim Miller put the Crunch on the scoreboard first at 10:02 of the first period.  Miller had tipped in a slap shot by Nick Holden.  Jon Mirasty was also credited with an assist.

At the next faceoff Jimmy Bonneau and Jon Mirasty dropped the gloves a second time for a real fight.  Mirasty appeared to get in a few more direct punches than Bonneau but credit is due for Bonneau for busting open Mirasty’s left eye.

Maksim Mayorov scored four minutes later with an assist to Jared Aulin.

Jimmy Bonneau scored at 17:08 of [...]Read More

Jimmy Bonneau vs Jon Mirasty Fight Videos

October 24, 2009 - By

The first fight came after Jon Mirasty leveled Luke Beaverson into the boards in what looked like Mirasty should have been called for boarding.  Bonneau was quick to go after Mirasty and stick up for his teammate.

The second fight occurred right after the Crunch took a 1-0 lead in the game.  Just after the puck was dropped they decided to finish what they had started.

Bonneau did a great job standing up to Mirasty.  I think it’s safe to say we may see them go after each other a third time on Sunday evening.
