Survey for Hockey Fans About an App to Be Released Soon

I think it’s safe to say that just about every hockey player, fan and anyone in the media has HockeyDB set as one of their bookmarks or can type the name of the site faster than just about any other site.  A few professional hockey players are trying to take a piece of that pie by developing an app for our smartphones with an expected release date before the season starts.

(Side note: If you don’t have it installed  already, download the app on to your iPhone, Android or Blackberry phone immediately by visiting the apps page here!)

The project involves former Rochester Americans defensemen Kyle Hagel (a whopping 3 games), Dustin Sprout and Cam MacIntyre.  Kyle Hagel reached out to me over the weekend to help spread the word and ask for feedback from others.

Here’s the description given about the application:

Shnarped is an iPhone application – created by three players that have recently played in the AHL – that will aggregate information (stats, news/blogs, videos, twitter) about all professional hockey players onto a player page. Players will have access to these profiles and will be able to customize them with unique content. It [...]Read More

Kyle Hagel Returns to Reading

March 28, 2009 - By

Under the category of not breaking news at all, Kyle Hagel has been returned to the Reading Royals of the ECHL.  He was loaned to the Rochester Americans on February 8th.  Hagel had only played in three games for the Amerks when he separated his shoulder on February 14 against Rockford.

Prior to getting called up Hagel lead the ECHL with 25 major penalties. In 38 total games with the Fresno Falcons and Royals this year, Hagel had scored seven goals, assisted on six others (thirteen points), and picked up 143 penalty minutes.

The three games that he played in were all road games so I never got to see him play, but I’m assuming based on those numbers in the ECHL the team was looking for a player with a style similar to Mike Duco.

Amerks Injury Update

March 17, 2009 - By

Even with the warm weather outside it was freezing cold as usual inside of the ESL Centre in Henrietta this morning where both the Amerks and Manitoba Moose practiced in preparation for Wednesday nights game.

The Amerks are hoping to end a six game skid against the Moose, a team they’ve been beaten twice and taken into a shootout another time.

The three short handed goals scored on Sunday night tied an AHL season high with none other than the Hamilton Bulldogs who scored three short handed goals against us earlier in the season.  The AHL record for short handed goals in one game is four.

Janis Sprukts was back on the ice for a full practice, he said that he’s expecting to play on Friday night in Syracuse.

Jacob Micflikier also participated in the full practice and kept up with everyone else.  He’s not playing Wednesday and is questionable for the weekend.

Shawn Matthias will be back on the ice tomorrow night after being out for a few games with a wrist injury.

Kyle Hagel is finally out of his sling.  It appeared as if he was going to practice but ran out of time.

And finally, the only [...]Read More

Amerks Face Division Rivals This Weekend

March 13, 2009 - By

The Rochester Americans are back in action this weekend with home games on Friday against the Toronto Marlies and Sunday against the Hamilton Bulldogs.  On Saturday they travel to Syracuse to take on the Crunch.  Following this weekend the Amerks will only have 12 games remaining.

One bright spot looking towards this weekend is the expected return of Drew Larman and Kenndal McArdle.  It’s been six weeks since we last saw McArdle in the lineup when he went out with a shoulder injury.  Larman has been out a month with a rib injury.

Michal Repik played with the Florida Panthers on Thursday night in Buffalo scoring the only goal of the game for the Panthers.  Not bad considering he only had 3:50 of ice time.  The Panthers next game is on Saturday home against Tampa, it’ll be interesting to see if he’s sent back or if the Cats keep him around.

Tanner Glass is recovering from shoulder surgery but does expect to return to action before the season is over.  Shawn Matthias has been out with a wrist injury and is not expected to play.  He was slashed on the stick last weekend which apparently sent some sort of vibration [...]Read More

Amerks Announce Clear Day Roster

March 12, 2009 - By

On Thursday afternoon the Rochester Americans announce their 22 man clear day roster for the remainder of the 08/09 regular season.  It’s yet another sign that the season is quickly coming to a close.  It’s sad that hockey season is winding down, but exciting to REALLY start looking forward to next season.  That’s a whole other topic.

No surprises with the Amerks lineup.  If the team had any plans of making the playoffs this would be a lot more interesting.

Here’s the roster:

Mike Brodeur and Tyler Plante; defensemen Michael Caruso, Jason Garrison, Rory Fitzpatrick, Keaton Ellerby, Jordan Henry, Peter Aston, Franklin MacDonald, and forwards Janis Sprukts, Drew Larman, Stefan Meyer, Michael Duco, Tanner Glass, Dan Collins, Karl Stewart, Shawn Matthias, Kenndal McArdle, Michal Repik, David Brine, Randall Gelech and Riley Emmerson. Forwards Jarret Lukin, Kyle Hagel, Andrew Sweetland, Judd Blackwater and Jacob Micflikier currently remain in residence.

The rest of the AHL also announced their rosters as well.

Amerks Post Game Injury Report

February 20, 2009 - By

The Rochester Americans beat the Hershey Bears on Friday night but they also lost two more players to injury.  Jacob Micflikier hurt his ankle in the second period and had to be helped off the ice.  He returned to the bench a short time later to play a few more shifts, but did not return in the third period.  Rory Fitzpatrick hurt his knee as well during the game and will not be playing in Toronto on Saturday afternoon.  Benoit Groulx was unsure if it was the same knee he had surgery on in December.

Here’s the rest of the injured players:

  • Drew Larman – rib injury
  • Tanner Glass – shoulder
  • Kenndal McArdle – shoulder
  • Kyle Hagel – shoulder
  • Luke Beaverson – concussion

We’ll know more after the weekend about the extent of the injuries to Micflikier and Fitzpatrick.  Drew Larman is expecting to be back within the next week.  The remaining injured players (Glass, McArdle, Hagel, Beaverson) are out with no timeline that I know of for returning.
