Top 10 Read Posts of 2008 on Lets Go Amerks

It seems like Top 10 posts are the popular thing to do, and why not, looks back at what people seemed to find the most interesting.  In 2008 the Amerks at one point were a team with an uncertain future due to a lack of ownership.  That was solved, here’s hoping that “new day for a Rochester tradition” is accomplished in 2009 with a successful team on the ice.  We’ll be out of town for a couple days, in absence of covering Wednesday mornings practice here’s a list of the top 10 most read posts on this site in 2008:

10. Amerks Open Camp, Live at ESL!

The team opened training camp at the ESL Centre in Henrietta on September 30, 2008.. the day that the Edmonton Oilers claimed Steve MacIntyre off of waivers from the Panthers.  “Big Mac” was already on the ice for camp when he was pulled off and given the news.

Recent ATO Signings

Over the past week a number of players have been signed to amateur tryout contracts (ATO), here’s the current list of players:

  • Mike Kostka (D) – A free agent signing of the Sabres, he joins the Amerks after a four-year collegiate career with the University of Massachusetts-Amherst. A native of Ajax, Ontario, Kostka registered 53 points (15+38) and 74 penalty minutes (PIM) in 143 games for the Minutemen. The team captain notched a career high 21 points (9+12) while appearing in every game on the blueline during his senior year at UMass.
  • Luke Beaverson – He’s a Florida 9th round draft pick that has played the last 4 years at the Univeristy of Alaska-Anchorage.  He is another big defenseman at 6’5″ 227lbs.
  • Tommy Goebel (F) – A short 5′ 7″ tall and 166lbs, he’s the smallest player on the ice and can’t be missed.  In three games played already for the Amerks he has scored one goal and three assists.  He is very fast on the ice with great hands, as long he doesn’t get pushed all over the ice. Mike Funk Returned to Amerks

The Buffalo Sabres reassigned defenseman Mike Funk to the Rochester Americans.  In four games with the sabres he was -3 with 1 shot on goal.  In 61 games with the Amerks he has had 2 goals and 5 assists.

One Returns…Another Injured

Mike Funk is expected to return to the lineup for tomorrow’s game against the San Antonio Rampage.  Kenndal McArdle is going to be out for a month with a broken foot.

Mike Funk Injury Update

Mike Funk is expecting to be cleared to play this weekend.  He injured his shoulder against the Lake Erie Monsters on January 25 and has not played since.  The only other current injury is Mike Card, no word on when he will be able to play again anytime soon, he has been out with another concussion.
