McArdle Gets Tough in Panthers Game

October 29, 2009 - By

Kenndal McArdle vs Shean DonovanKenndal McArdle was called up to the dance from the Amerks and played in Wednesday nights Florida Panthers vs Ottawa Senators game.  McArdle is currently second in the American Hockey League in penalty minutes showing that he’s standing tall and willing to use his body to make a name for himself.

He did just that in the game tonight by dropping the gloves to fight Shean Donovan of the Ottawa Senators.  It’s been talked about that the Panthers need some toughness and McArdle is showing he’s willing to give it a shot.

It wasn’t much of a fight but it’s further proof he’s putting everything on the line this season every chance he gets.

He apparently missed a couple of easy setups by Dominic Moore, but we can toss that to first game jitters.  McArdle also had one shot and 4:12 in ice time.

Michal Repik also played and 6:07 in ice time and was a -1.

What happened to some of last years Amerks?

October 2, 2009 - By

Drew Larman is currently playing with the Providence Bruins

The summer of 2009 has been an exciting one with the roster that has been built for the 2009/2010 Rochester Americans.  There’ll be a lot of questions from fans getting to know some of the new players but also a lot of questions wondering about some favorites from last season.

So here’s a quick rundown of players that are no longer in the Florida Panthers or Rochester Americans organizations:

Tanner Glass – He signed a one year two way deal with the Vancouver Canucks.  After a strong training camp he’s on the Canucks opening night roster.  The Panthers had said they would have liked him back but were not ready to offer him a deal prior to the start of free agency.

Janis Sprukts – is currently playing for Dinamo Riga in the KHL.  Sprukts was unhappy last season when he realized he had no real chance of cracking the Florida Panthers lineup.  So he packed up his things and went across the pond.

Mike Brodeur – The Florida Panthers were ready to offer him a $105,000 contract to stay in the organization but Brodeur thought [...]Read More

Amerks Summer News Stories, Getting Caught Up

August 12, 2009 - By

It has been a busy summer for the Rochester Americans with a lot of great news and a couple of stories that have generated some bad press.  Looking at the bigger picture it has been a positive summer.  Here’s the start of “round up” type posts I’ll be doing once the season gets started.  There’s always a lot of news but not always enough to make an individual post for.  They’re also a great way for people to get caught up that may not read this site or the news all that often.

Here’s what has happened so far this summer:

** Training camp for the Amerks has not even been announced yet but the doesn’t mean some Amerks aren’t back on the ice already.  The Rochester Americans Summer Hockey Camps are underway at ESL being led by Amerks assistant coach Jason Cipolla.  It’s great to see so many kids sporting the Amerks logo playing hockey, a sign that the season is close.

** Matt Duffy is still an unsigned draft pick of the Florida Panthers.  He was drafted in the fourth round and #104 overall in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.  When his season ended with the University of [...]Read More

Mike Brodeur Not Returning as an Amerk

June 6, 2009 - By

The Florida Panthers were willing to spend the money and offer Mike Brodeur a contract to return as the goalie of the Rochester Americans but Brodeur rejected the offer.  Apparently the Panthers were willing to offer Brodeur a contract worth $105,000 which is right at the re-entry waiver cap so at least we know money was not an issue.

Every player dreams of making it to the NHL, that opportunity just did not exist with the Florida Panthers in the eyes of Brodeur.  That dream appears as if it exists within the Ottawa Senators organization where it’s believed he will end up.  If that’s the case then Amerks fans will see a lot of Brodeur assuming he’s playing with the Binghamton Senators to work his way up.

Mike Brodeur arrived in Rochester in December 2008 and is credited with helping to turn the season around from a complete failure to a respectable team at the end of the season.  He made a lot of spectacular saves and single handedly kept the Amerks in a lot of games that should have been complete blow out losses.

With the departure of Brodeur it looks like Alexander Salak will definitely be in Rochester [...]Read More
