Drew MacIntyre’s Lid Features Care Bears and Potato Heads

Goalies are the only players on the ice that can really show off a little bit of their personality by what they paint on their helmets so I took a moment to ask Rochester Americans goalie Drew MacIntyre about his new lid this season.

MacIntyre is from Prince Edward Island where the two main industries are potato farming and fishing so he’s given a nod to both of this things with a Mr Potato Head on each side.  On one side the Mr Potato Head is fishing and on the other side is another Mr Potato Head who is wearing a Rochester Red Wings baseball cap, a way of acknowledging his love of baseball and Rochester’s local AAA baseball team.

On the back of the helmet is two care bears, one for his wife and the other for his daughter who will be turning three soon.

The top of the helmet has some stars for the Rochester Americans.

A bible verse from Revelations is featured across the chin of his helmet.  ”It’s who I am and I want that [...]Read More

The Finished Amerks Logo at Center Ice

September 21, 2010 - By

I’ve uploaded the pictures to Facebook and Twitter but realized that not everyone checks those two places so I’ll post them here as well.  One big change from last season (thanks for pointing it out Mark!) is that the logo at center ice is one large logo, not two smaller ones.

Amerks Logo Half Finished

Finished Amerks Logo at Center Ice

Suddenly I was hungry for a Zweigles hot dog

And craved a Marks Pizza for dinner

And washed it all down with a Pepsi while watching some Time Warner Cable

No, I wasn’t paid for any of the above.  The ice looks great when it’s finished and there’s no skate marks on it yet.  I should have thought to bring mine to “test it out.”  More pics in the morning from practice!

Amerks Tuesday Morning Practice in Pictures

November 24, 2009 - By

Jason Cipolla Gameday 11-24-2009The Amerks had a light game day skate this morning at Blue Cross Arena prior to the road game tonight in Hamilton.  The only items worthy of noting from practice was that it was all of the “non vets” and minus tonights starting goalie Alexander Salak.

Healthy scratches for tonight will be Brady Calla, Peter Aston, and James DeLory.

Steve MacIntyre is a beast in front of the net.  It was amusing watching him stand there as Clay Wilson and Keaton Ellerby tried to defend against him.  Mac pushes those guys around like they’re rag dolls.

Game is at 7:05pm and you can watch it live on AHLLive.com for $6.99, listen at WHTK 1280 AM/107.3 FM, whtk.com or watch it elsewhere online if you know where to look.

Here’s my pics from the Amerks vs Crunch game on 9/29/2009 in Syracuse.

The Amerks won 4-2 (game recap)

I don’t consider myself a professional photographer at all and chances are you may have a better camera than me.  After two seasons of taking thousands of pictures I’m finally getting around to uploading the decent ones.  Just about all of the pictures you see used on this site are my own.

You can view all of my pics at http://flickr.com/letsgoamerks, I’ve tried to start labelling a lot of them so if you’re looking for a specific player you can do a search.

Lastly, if anyone out there uses a Canon PowerShot S5 IS and can offer me any tips I’ll take them!  Here’s the pics:

Amerks Pink in the Rink Gameday Pictures

March 29, 2009 - By

On Friday March 27th the Rochester Americans wore pink jerseys and painted the ice pink in support of breast cancer research.  The Amerks lost the game to the Monsters by the final score of 4-2.

The team announced that they raised $8,580 in its pink jersey auction conducted at the game.  Fans were able to bid on the game worn jerseys of the players throughout the game.

The jerseys of goaltender Mike Brodeur and newcomer Matt Duffy were among the most popular, as each jersey was auctioned off for substantial amounts. Brodeur’s jersey flew off the table with a $551 purchase, while Duffy’s jersey was second to go with a $548 buy.

The day before the ice crew at the arena painted the ice pink for the game, you can view those pictures here.

Here’s thumbnails of our pictures from the game itself below, you can view them directly on flickr via the flickr.com/letsgoamerks page.

All of our pictures were taken using Canon PowerShot S5is
