AMERICANS BRING IN FIFTH ‘AMERICAN-BORN’ PLAYER

ROCHESTER SIGNS ROSS CARLSON TO AHL CONTRACT

(Rochester, NY)… Rochester Americans Director of Player Personnel Jody Gage announced today the club has signed Ross Carlson to a two-way American Hockey League contract. He becomes the fifth U.S. born player to wear the red, white and blue for Rochester this season.

“Ross came in and did a good job for us last year,” said Gage. “He is a solid two-way player and had a great season down with the Everblades (Florida-ECHL) and signing him will provide great depth for our organization.”

Carlson, 27, enters his third full season of professional hockey in 2009-10 after registering two points (1+1) in three games last season with the Amerks. The Duluth, Minnesota, native spent most of the 2008-09 campaign with the Florida Everblades of the ECHL, where he compiled a career-high 22 assists and finished eighth on the team with 36 points (14+22) in 52 games. He also scored a team best seven goals and nine points in 11 postseason contests for Florida.

In his pro career, he has notched 36 goals and 47 assists for 83 points in 130 games. In 29 career [...]Read More

Florida Everblades Eliminated

May 6, 2009 - By

The Florida Everblades were eliminated in six games against the South Carolina Stingrays in the 2nd round of the ECHL playoffs on Tuesday night.  The Blades were down 3-1 with the third period winding down when they were able to send the game into overtime by scoring two goals in the final minute and a half of regulation to tie it at 3.  That’s all the team seemed to have in them as they went on to lose in overtime.

A disappointing loss for the Blades.  They finished the regular season as the top team in the ECHL.  They were picked No. 1 in the Hockey News ECHL poll, heralded by opposing coaches and players alike as “the best team in the league.”

Here’s a great writeup with more info about the loss by Angela Busch of the Naples Daily News.  A season synopsis was also posted on Wednesday with more info.

Jacob Micflikier only played in the first game of the series before injuring his ankle again during a following practice.

Mike Brodeur had been presented the opportunity to play for the Everblades but turned it down.  On one hand I understand where he’s coming from, but [...]Read More
