Contract Status for Amerks Players Heading into Next Season

April 29, 2010 - By

Now that the season is over for the Rochester Americans it’s time to take a look and see who is still under contract with the Panthers or Amerks, who is and who is not still likely to sign.  I grouped players by signed, likely to sign and RFA and UFA.  Under each category I put some guesses about the status of the players.

Currently Under Contract for 10/11:

Coaches: Benoit Groulx and Jason Cipolla

Goalies: Alexander Salak, Marc Cheverie

Defense: Michael Caruso, Keaton Ellerby, Adam Comrie, James DeLory

Forwards: Evgeny Dadonov, Michal Repik, Brady Calla, Graham Mink, Chris Taylor, Shawn Matthias, Victor Oreskovich, Eric Selleck, AJ Jenks

One Way: Clay Wilson and Jeff Taffe are signed but to one way contracts with the Florida Panthers.  If they don’t fit into their plans it’s still possible the Panthers will try and have them clear waivers to be sent to the Amerks.

***** Shawn Matthias has probably played his last game in the AHL and should be able to earn a job with the Panthers going forward.  Keaton Ellerby will be trying to earn a job as well but he has some work ahead.  It’s amazing that James DeLory is still under [...]Read More

Gameday: Bears Going for History and Amerks Injuries, Additions, Releases

April 2, 2010 - By

The Amerks have a chance to be a part of history again this season as the Hershey Bears go for the AHL record for most wins in a season.  The Bears are currently tied with the previous record holder the Binghamton Senators who set the record at 57 wins during the 1992-1993 season.  Rochester has been horrible on Friday nights al season so if there was ever a night to break out of that cycle it’d be tonight.

A win would not only be exciting but a huge boost of morale to the team heading into the last few games and the playoffs.  The Bears are at this point considered the favorites to win the Calder Cup yet again.  Anything can happen though, here’s hoping an upset occurs tonight!

Tyler Plante has been the go to goalie for the Amerks in recent weeks and there’s no reason he would not get the start tonight.  In 7 starts in March he was 5-1-1 with a 1.88 GAA and .942 save percentage.  The only way to stop the Bears from scoring 1.88 GAA and .942 save percentage.  The only way to stop the Bears from scoring though would be to put a [...]Read More

Roy and Fitzpatrick Injured, Hotham Back In for Amerks

March 24, 2010 - By

Newly acquired Mathieu Roy hurt his left ankle on Tuesday morning during practice and did not make the trip to Cleveland.  Roy hurt himself as I was taking a walk from the seats to the back hallway so I didn’t catch what happened but he appeared to be in some pain when I saw him in the hallway.  He’s supposed to be the physical veteran player on defense for the rest of the season, but the move could turn out to be a bust if as he was injured when traded for and is injured again.

Rory Fitzpatrick also stayed behind with his groin bothering him, he’s day to day.

Down two defensemen the Amerks called Scott Hotham back up from the Florida Everblades.  Hotham has been acceptable at this point in the season on defense.

Technically the Amerks are down what should be four regular defensemen right now.  Garrison and Ellerby are called up through the end of the season and now Roy and Fitzpatrick injured.

What would have been an interesting experiment to try is have Steve MacIntyre play on the blue line.  MacIntyre was a seventh player on defense at practice on Tuesday and to be [...]Read More

Amerks Win 9th Game of the Season vs Crunch

March 14, 2010 - By

The Amerks had a 5-0 lead through 24 minutes of play and what seemed like a game that should go on and end as another big win against the Crunch but it almost turned into the opposite.  The Crunch battled back and scored two goals half way through the third period but it wasn’t enough.

Rochester has now won all nine games this season against the Crunch.  A big difference from the last few years when the Crunch were dominating the games.  As with most Amerks games this team gets you excited and on the edge of your seat and by the end of the game you’re biting your nails.

They found a way to score early big goals but keeping that up throughout the game was yet again an issue.

Jimmy Bonneau gave the Amerks an early 1-0 lead at 6:23 of the first period when he tipped in a shot/pass from the side boards to the front of the net from Jordan Henry.

It only 65 seconds for the Amerks to take a 2-0 lead thanks to Evgeny Dadonov for tipping in a pass from Daniel Steiner.  Chris Taylor had been chasing down the puck and he [...]Read More

Rats Never Back Down and Defeat Amerks

March 13, 2010 - By

The Amerks did something they have not been able to do for a while, play an entertaining home game.  Unfortunately the game went downhill as it went on and they ended up losing.  Albany scored a power play goal at 7:04 of the third period to take a 4-3 lead and from that point on they controlled the game.

Tyler Plante talked about that fourth goal after the game and said that he went to raise his blocker and it got caught on the pants of a player to the side of him.

Rewinding a bit, the Amerks got on the scoreboard at 5:39 of first when Chris Taylor scored his 13th goal of the season.  Evgeny Dadonov fed a great pass to the front of the net where Taylor put it in with a slap shot.

Mike Duco went in the penalty box for throwing a punch and on that power play Drayson Bowman scored for the Rats to tie the game 1-1.

Jordan Henry put the Amerks back in the lead scoring a power play goal of his own at 17:28 in the first.  Mike York made a great pass through the middle of the ice [...]Read More
