Amerks Injury Update; Update on Fitzpatrick

October 19, 2008 - By

Rory Fitzpatrick was hit hard into the boards by Moose rookie winger Brandon Sawada on Saturday night, he may have suffered a concussion.  He’ll be examined by team doctors this week to determine his status.

If he is unable to play, the good news is that rookie Keaton Ellerby may finally be able to play.  He’s participated in all non contact drills at practices, so once he can grip his stick 100% he’s ready to play.

Other injuries:

Jordan Henry – knee, appears day to day

Stefan Meyer – groin, has not skated since opening night

10/12: Amerks Lose to Binghamton 3-1

October 13, 2008 - By

The Rochester Americans lost to the Binghamton Senators on Sunday night, final score was 3-1.  The Amerks opened the season with three games in three nights and lost all three.  They go on the road to play the Manitoba Moose next weekend, October 17 and 18th.

The Amerks lone goal was scored when Tanner Glass tipped in a shot from the point by Peter Aston at 15:01 of the third period.

The much anticipated Shawn Matthias was again not very visible.  Expectations are high on him so the less he produces the more fans are going to wonder.  One factor in tonights game could have been that we were often on the penalty kill or power play, a role he may not be intended for.

Chris Beckford-Tseu gets another loss in his column, but he played well.  The first two Binghamton goals were scored after some superb passing on a power play, and the third by bad defensive coverage.  He needs to be given time before anyone gets ready to throw in the towel on him.  More than anything our young defense needs some work to be able to help him out.

It was another game (and familiar [...]Read More

Amerks Lose Home Opener to Crunch

October 11, 2008 - By

It may sound like a familiar story, the Rochester Americans lose to the Syracuse Crunch, but what sets this one apart from last season is that the team put in a solid effort.  The Crunch had a few lucky bounces, and the Amerks appeared to have scored a goal but the light never went on.  The final score was 4-3.

Maybe someone can help out on that one.  I believe it was in the second period, a shot appeared to have went into the net and bounced right back out.  The goal light did not go on, and very few people seemed to have noticed.

The team put in a solid effort, never gave up.  There was one point in the second period where it seemed like the game was going south, but they picked up the slack.  The guys did well against a more talented and faster Crunch.  The team is still new (7 rookies, 2 second year players among 18 players), once they get a few games together and have more game play experience we’ll hope for better results.

It was impressive seeing Benoit Groulx and Jason Cipolla working hard behind the bench.  Benoit was constantly [...]Read More

July 10, 2008 - By

Stefan Meyer accepted the Florida Panthers offer today to continue playing for the organization.  The terms of the contract aren’t known to LetsGoAmerks at this time, but we have to assume he will be in Rochester once again for the upcoming season.  Meyer was a key player last season playing in 70 games where he notched 21 goals and 19 assists for 40 points.  We can’t wait to have him back this year!

Going in a different direction, Stefan Meyer (C/LW) was recalled by the Florida Panthers today.  Meyer has had a great season with the Amerks this year, posting 16 goals and 12 assists in 45 games.  David Brine (C) was also recalled by the Panthers.

15 Active, Lost 20 of last 22, Where's some Help?

January 20, 2008 - By

With only 15 players on the roster in tonights game against the Quad City Flames, the Amerks lost there fourth straight by the final score of 4-2, they have also now lost 20 of the last 22 games.

Mark Mancari (13th of season) and Kenndal McArdle (5th of season) scored the only goals for the Amerks, all four goals for the flames were scored by Grant Stevenson.  Adam Dennis stopped 30 of 33 shots.

The Amerks only had 15 players on the roster tonight, two under the norm, Stefan Meyer and Marek Zagrapan were out presumably with the flu bug that has been going around the locker room.

Franklin MacDonald was playing as a forward tonight, he now joins Gragnani who was also recently moved to the same position after a depressing start as a defenseman.

The Amerks have been short on players for much of the season and especially as of recent. The Buffalo Sabres currently have Clark MacArthur who was recalled on January 5, and Patrick Kaleta on the 8th.  The Florida Panthers called up Tanner Glass on January 13 and Anthony Stewart back on January 3rd.  Neither team has assigned any players to the Amerks as replacements.

Meyer Scores Twice In 3-2 Loss

January 6, 2008 - By

The Manitoba Moose scored three early goals and it was all uphill from there for the Amerks.  While managing to have have 23 more shots on goal than the Moose (35-12 final shot tally), two late goals by Stefan Meyer wasn’t enough.  The team did put together a great effort, something we havn’t seen in recent games.

Adam Dennis was pulled at the end of the first period after allowing three goals in the first 11 minutes.  Tyler Plante finished the game without allowing any goals.

The first goal was scored by Luc Bourdon when he fired a shot through the 5 hole of Adam Dennis.  Martin Lojek screened Dennis as he was skating in front of the net to get back into position.  Once Dennis saw the puck it was too late and it was in the net.

On the second goal Adam Dennis made the save and deflected it away but it went right at Mike Funk who then tried to knock it away but instead it fell right on to the stick of Mike Keane who easily put it in the net.

The third goal was scored unassisted by Alexandre Boulduc.  As he skated in on net Peter Aston went [...]Read More

#10 Stefan Meyer
Center/Left Wing
07/20/1985
6’2″ (187.96 cm)

Fox Valley, Saskatewan

Stefan Meyer is a player who isn’t afraid to use his size to create space on the ice and is a great physical winger.  He isn’t going to let anyone push him or his teammates around and he isn’t going to back down from a challenge.

From 2000-2005, Meyer played for the Medicine Hat Tigers in the Western Hockey League (WHL) where he played 282 games and racked up 123 goals and 123 assists for a total of 246 points in his junior career.

Stefan was drafted in the 2nd round (55th overall) in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft by the Florida Panthers.

Meyer was a hit his rookie year in Rochester.  He scored 12 goals and 16 assists for 28 points in 68 games. Because of his great play, he was named the Amerks Rookie of the Year.  He scored his first professional goal in his first pro game with the Amerks on October 29, 2005.

Last season (2006/07) cut back on the penalty minutes he was taking (from 139 in the previous season to 90).  He also scored a [...]Read More
