Scouting Report – 2/22/17 – Tim Kennedy

February 24, 2017 - By

Even though the Amerks put forth their best lineup of the year Wednesday night in Buffalo, fans were still left wanting more. The return of Bailey, Baptiste, and Rodrigues was tarnished by a lack of effort and an All Star game feel. Thankfully the backbone of the Amerks this year (Linus Ullmark) stood strong with 39 saves. Karabacek also played well extending his goal scoring streak.

Another player making a notable return was Buffalo native Tim Kennedy. Though effort was not an issue, Kennedy struggled to make an impact. With a man advantage, at even strength, and on the kill, every part of Kennedy’s game was average. Fittingly, I will rate his performance a C.

On the power play Kennedy played a very minor role. He contributed nothing to zone entry, just waiting at the blue line for a dump. After the Amerks were set up, he assumed his position in the slot waiting for a deflection. Surrounded by Comets, the puck very rarely found his stick. He was able to redirect a shass (shot-pass) from Fedun on the point; unfortunately, it ricocheted harmlessly into the chest of the waiting netminder. Kennedy was no doubt limited by the role [...]Read More

Scouting Report – 12/19/16 – Tim Kennedy

December 20, 2016 - By

By Dennis Allen, Jr.

Tonight’s 4-1 collapse was one of the worst games Rochester played all year. After leading 1-0, the Senators scored four unanswered goals, snapping the Amerk’s three game home win streak. If O’Reilly had not been gifted an assist on what was a largely an individual effort, Baptiste-O’Reilly-Schneider would have gone their 3rd strait game without a point. The #1 line is a combined -11 over that stretch. Once again that lack of production filtered into special teams play. Rochester has now failed to score on 23 strait power plays. The lone bright spot of the night was the hard work of Justin Bailey, who scored the only goal. After a shaky start to the year, he is really starting to heat up.

Among the things to be disappointed about was the return of Tim Kennedy. Tonight his rating was a J, for jet-lagged. After traveling over 30 hours this weekend, and moving his family from Sweden on Thursday, it looked obvious he wasn’t prepared to play. His slow reactions were most evident in the face-off circle. He lost almost every draw he had tonight (most of them cleanly).

Offensively, Kennedy was never really able [...]Read More

Amerks Weekend in Texas, Week in Review

Amerks Weekend in Texas, Week in Review

The Amerks are on a long road trip to Texas and will be looking for a big weekend full of wins to put this last three in three behind them and gain some ground in the standings.  They’ll play the Rampage on Friday, Stars on Saturday and Aero’s on Sunday.  All three games are must win but the game against the Rampage (the current Florida Panthers affiliate) has some more meaning for obvious reasons. More on that below.

They started out well last weekend with a 3-0 win over the Albany Devils but went on to lose two games by only one goal, one against the Phantoms and the other the Bulldogs.  Paying attention to details is something the team talked about after the great win on Friday night but they lost focus of that the next two nights which resulted in two losses.  Evan Rankin had two goals against Adirondack which gave them a 2-1 lead before eventually losing in overtime.  A four minute high sticking penalty by Drew Schiestel gave the Phantoms the power play in overtime which was the deciding factor.  The next night against Hamilton the final score was 2-1 which meant it was a close [...]Read More
