Bonneau vs Spencer Fight Video; Team Stands Tall Together

The Amerks did something on Sunday night that I don’t think they have done a lot of throughout the season, sticking up for each other when the Binghamton Senators started hitting hard.

Jamie Johnson scored the first goal of the game at 7:53 of the first period to take a 1-0 lead.  On the ensuing face off the puck dropped and Jimmy Bonneau and Tim Spencer dropped the gloves (video below).  The obvious point of the fight was for the Binghamton Senators to try and gain some momentum.  It didn’t work.

About five minutes later Denis Hamel hit Jeff Taffe hard in the corner and put a little elbow in there as well for good measure.  Jamie Johnson was quick to skate in go after Hamel in the corner.  Jeff Taffe also got into the mix along with Tomas Kudelka of the Binghamton Senators.  It was in the corner and tough to see but it looked like a few jabs were probably thrown with a lot of pushing and shoving.

Weekend Recap and Plante vs Spencer Video

Rochester Americans goalie Tyler Plante became involved in a rare goalie fight on Saturday night vs Tim Spencer of the Binghamton Senators.  If you watch at the beginning of the clip you’ll see Tim Spencer try and take a run at Clay Wilson on the back boards.  As Spencer skated past the left hand side of the net you’ll see Plantes’ stick oh so gently hang loose and hit Spencer as he skated by.  Whether or not he intentionally tried to give Spencer a butt end is up for debate.

Apparently Plante shared a few words after Spencer had completely missed Wilson along the back boards.  You can barely see Spencer turn and skate towards Plante as the play comes down the ice.  Clay Wilson should have found a way to jump in and help his goalie.  Jimmy Bonneau was quick into the mix and whether or not he was on the ice at the time or part of a “line change” is something that will probably be reviewed by the league.

I’d say Plante stood up for himself pretty well against known tough guy Tim Spencer.

Graham Mink had just scored a goal to give the Rochester Americans a 3-0 lead over the Binghamton Senators in the first period.   Moments after the faceoff Jimmy Bonneau and Tim Spencer dropped their mitts to go at it.

Gameday: Amerks vs Senators; First of Ten

The Amerks are back on the ice tonight to faceoff against the Binghamton Senators, game time is at 7:05pm at Blue Cross Arena.  It’s the first of ten meetings between the two teams this season.  It’s also only one of two Wednesday night home games this season for the Amerks.

The game could see the return of goaltender Mike Brodeur who saved the Amerks 2008/2009 season from being a complete disaster.  Brodeur was offered the chance to return but he chose to take an offer with the Ottawa Senators instead.  No idea if he’ll be starting or riding the bench, his season along with the Senators has been off to a rough start.

Binghamton is off to a 2-2-2 start and currently on a four game losing streak.  Their skid started on October 10 when the Hershey Bears beat them 8-1.  The Senators have given up a goal in the first minute of two of their last four games.

Rochester is currently riding a three game winning streak, the first such streak since February 2008.  A fast start and the Amerks special teams will again be a key element of the game.
