The best news for the Amerks second game of this road trip against the Grand Rapids Griffins is that they’ll have Joe Finley and Shaone Morrisonn back on defense after they missed a few games. Morrisonn has missed the last three games while serving a three game suspension. Finley has missed the past four Amerks games while called up to the Buffalo Sabres. The defense has gotten by but those two are much more capable defensively against the top lines of opposing teams.

Rochester came back from being down 3-1 this past Saturday against the Griffins and won in the shootout, final score was 4-3. Nick Crawford, Zack Kassian and Mark Voakes scored in regulation and Paul Szczechura, Jonathan Parker and Shawn Szydlowski scored in the shootout for the win. David Leggio made 35 saves for his 12th win of the season. Leggio is now 12-10-1 with a 2.82 GAA. My guess is that Leggio gets another start tonight.

The key to an Amerks win is simple, build a lead through the first two periods and hold on to it going into the third. Pretty basic. The Amerks are 18-4-2-1 when they have a lead going into the third period. They’ve found ways to come back but the lead is the obvious buffer that they need and can hold on to.

From the Amerks:

Who’s Hot: Despite seeing his career-best seven-game point streak halted, Phil Varone’s lone assist against Grand Rapids on Saturday give him 17 points in his last 18 games for a total of 23 points (5+18) on the season, 15 of which have come over the last month. Crawford, meanwhile, enters play tonight in the midst of a four-game point streak (1+3), and Kassian also shows points in three consecutive games (2+1) to give him seven points (3+4) in his first seven games back with the Amerks since his latest NHL stint with the Sabres. Fellow rookie forward Marcus Foligno shows 10 points (3+7) in his last 12 games, a stretch that includes three multi-point appearances, and Travis Turnbull has found the back of the net three times over his last five outings. Though currently on NHL recall with Buffalo, defenseman T.J. Brennan, who carried a career-best seven-game point streak (3+5) into 2012, shows 10 points (3+7) in his last 11 games and has only been held scoreless three times during that stretch. In his last 13 games in an Amerks sweater, a span that includes two recalls to Buffalo and an injury absence, Brennan has registered 12 points on six goals and six assists. Lagace has recorded three points (1+2) in his last four appearances while Szczechura has collected a goal and an assist through his last three games.

A nice mix of points from various players. Derek Whitmore is in a bit of a drought right now, he hasn’t had a point in seven games. Look for him to emerge from that soon. The Amerks are still without Colin Stuart, Evan Rankin and Corey Tropp who are all out with injuries. That’s some offense that could really help the overall team.

Brock Matheson and Maury Edwards were both released from their PTO deals with the Amerks. Both players looked out of place with the team and not quite ready for the AHL level of play. They filled in the best that they probably could but they were overmatched.

You can listen to the game on 1280AM WHTK at 7pm or pay $6.99 to watch on AHL Live.

After tonight’s game the Amerks will get back on their sleeper bus for a 10 hour bus ride home before playing on the road against Syracuse on Friday night and then travelling to Toronto for an afternoon game on Saturday before the All-Star break.

Zack Kassian turned 21 today and the American Hockey League gave him a present by adding him to the All-Star Game roster in Atlantic City this coming weekend. In 25 games with the Amerks he has 10 goals and 11 assists for a total of 21 points. Kassian is currently tied for third on the team in goals and fifth in assists. The rookie will replace Brayden McNabb who has been on the Sabres injured list out with a concussion.

Interesting replacement. Kassian has had a number of great moments as a rookie but hasn’t necessarily been the best player on the Amerks roster. It all comes down to the people making the decisions and if they’re asking for the “All-Star” of a team or the best future prospect. Either way, congrats to Kassian. It’s a great way to get your name out there in the hockey world to show yourself off.

Joe Finley has also been sent back to the Amerks from the Sabres. He’ll join the team in Grand Rapids for their road game on Wednesday night. Shaone Morrisonn will also be back in the lineup after serving his three game suspension. With those two changes the Amerks also released defenseman Brock Matheson from his 25 game PTO.

Here’s the other updates for the All-Star roster:

Bridgeport Sound Tigers forward Casey Cizikas and Albany Devils defenseman Alexander Urbom have been named to the Eastern Conference All-Star roster, while Lake Erie Monsters defenseman Tyson Barrie, Peoria Rivermen goaltender Ben Bishop, Rockford IceHogs defenseman Brian Connelly, Toronto Marlies forward Ryan Hamilton, Rochester Americans forward Zack Kassian, Oklahoma City Barons forward Ryan Keller and Charlotte Checkers forward Chris Terry have been added to the Western Conference All-Star squad.

In addition, the AHL announced that Bridgeport’s Calvin de Haan, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton’s Simon Despres, Albany’s Matt Taormina, Toronto’s Joe Colborne and Nazem Kadri, Lake Erie’s Cedrick Desjardins, Milwaukee’s Ryan Ellis, San Antonio’s Jon Matsumoto, Rochester’s Brayden McNabb and Charlotte’s Jerome Samson will all miss the event.

That’s it for now!

The last time Michael Ryan played a game was October 14th against the Lake Erie Monsters and has since missed 35 games due to a mystery injury/illness/something or another. If everything goes according to plan he’ll skate to the ice tonight against the Oklahoma City Barons. The last time he was expected to return was Thanksgiving week before another he had another set back. So, what’s been wrong? Who knows but a healthy Michael Ryan in the Amerks lineup immediately contributes some speed up front and even more potential scoring up front. The team and fans will take that any day.

In his past three full seasons in the AHL, he was a big-time goal-scorer. In 2006-07 he scored 28 in 50 games for the Amerks. He scored 25 in 40 games with the Albany River Rats in 2008-09. He had 25 in 52 games for the Adirondack Phantoms last season.

And considering about half the forwards in Buffalo have been injured this season, and that six different Amerk forwards have been called up as injury replacements, there’s little doubt that Ryan would have been adding to his NHL games-played total.

(Read more from Kevin O on Hockey O-Zone)

Now we need to hope he scan stay healthy for the remainder of the season!

Evan Rankin

Thanks to Mark P. for pointing out the ECHL transactions on Wednesday which showed Evan Rankin being traded from Toledo to Utah. The transactions also showed Utah trading former Amerks tough guy Riley Emerson to Toledo. What does this mean for Rankin? He’ll likely be offered an American Hockey League contract with the Amerks now that he’s healthy or at least prior to his 25 game PTO expiring. That’s the safe assumption at least based on how well he’s played.

In the span of 13 games that Rankin has played he has been a leader during that time frame in scoring for the team with seven goals and five assists for 12 points. The only other person close during that time period is Derek Whitmore with eight goals and two assists for 10 points. Those stats were helped a long by a four goal game for Whitmore.

The ECHL has a salary cap and if Toledo isn’t expecting him back they likely made the deal to help clear some cap space, sometimes teams in the ECHL often do when players are called up.

Rankin has been out since December 27th due to this hit to the head against the Oklahoma City Barons and is expected to return tonight against the Oklahoma City Barons. Taylor Chorney of the Barons was suspended for three games for the hit.

100,000 Fans

Attendance is up more than 55% this season for three reasons: Cheaper tickets, return of the Buffalo Sabres and a hockey team that is successful on home ice and battles it out in every game. For those reasons the 100,000th will enter the War Memorial on Thursday night and be rewarded with a team autographed jersey, stick and seats in a suite. The team has averaged 5,441 fans for a total of 97,933 through the first 18 home games of the season.

The question is.. will bells and whistles goes off when the 100,000th ticket is scanned at the gate or will they be picking someone after the fact? Who’s going to count to 2,066 fans and then walk through the gate to try and be that person?

Check back later today for updates on everything above!

The Rochester Americans are short on defensemen for the first time this season and have added two players prior to three games in three nights starting on Thursday. The team signed Maury Edwards (Cincinnati Cyclones) and Brock Matheson (Stockton Thunder) to PTO’s, both from the ECHL.

The Amerks lineup will be without Shaone Morrisonn who was suspended for three games because of this hit last Saturday on Brian Willsie of the Hamilton Bulldogs. The Amerks are also without Joe Finley (healthy scratch Wednesday night) and TJ Brennan who are on recall to the Buffalo Sabres. With those three players out it leaves the team with Alex Biega, Drew Schiestel, Dennis Personn, Nick Crawford and Corey Fienhage.

That’s not a defense that any team will be very fearful of.. with the current coaching staff though I’m confident they’ll give them some good guidance at dealing with what they have and not thinking about what or who is missing.

From the Amerks press release on Matheson:

(Rochester, NY)… The Rochester Americans announced today that the team has signed defenseman Brock Matheson of the ECHL’s Stockton Thunder to a professional tryout.

Matheson, 24, has appeared in 19 games for Stockton this season, recording one assist and 13 penalty minutes. The 6-foot-1, 190-pound blueliner played in two American Hockey League games last season with Binghamton following the completion of his collegiate career. A native of Ganonoque, Ontario, Matheson played four seasons with Union College, where he registered 24 points on nine goals and 15 assists in 141 games.

From the Amerks press release on Edwards:

(Rochester, NY)… The Rochester Americans announced today that the team has signed defenseman Maury Edwards of the ECHL’s Cincinnati Cyclones to a professional tryout.

Edwards, 24, has appeared in 23 games for Cincinnati this season, recording 10 points (3+7) and six penalty minutes and ranks second on his team in scoring among defensemen. The 5-foot-11, 176-pound Edwards played in 12 American Hockey League games last season with Providence, Lake Erie and Peoria following the completion of his collegiate career. A native of Rocky Rapids, Alberta, Edwards played four seasons with UMass-Lowell, where he registered 79 points on 28 goals and 51 assists in 147 games. Edwards was a Hockey East First Team All-Star in 2008-09.

The puck drops at 7:05pm, we’ll see what the starting lineup looks like then.

The Sabres sent Derek Whitmore back to the Amerks today after his short two game promotion, surprisingly they didn’t harm him in any way while he was called up.. Whitmore didn’t put any points on the scoreboard but his hustle, scoring chances and hard work should earn him another call up this season if the need comes up and it likely will. The Sabres signed Whitmore out of Bowling Green State University and as a college student not drafted many questioned if he’d have what it takes to play in the NHL and he finally got the chance to prove that he could. It only took 272 games in the American Hockey League to get to this point but he was finally able to fulfill his dream of playing in the NHL.

Derek Whitmore is currently the Amerks leading scorer with 13 goals and seven assists in 29 games.

The Amerks are off to Oklahoma City to play two games against the Barons on Tuesday and Wednesday night.

The press release is below from the Amerks announcing the addition of Scott Campbell and Igor Gongalsky. Marcus Foligno was also sent down by the Sabres. The chances of Foligno playing are very slim, this would be his fifth game in six nights if he plays and that’s something no team wants a player going through. I think everyone would be all for him playing, we’ll see at game time what the coaches decision is.

Out of the two players added Scott Campbell appears to be the one with more of an offensive upside. Campbell has scored 9 goals and 8 assists in 28 games with the Las Vegas Wranglers. Gongalsky was recently released from a PTO with the Portland Pirates where he played in 13 games and had one assist. He also played in 54 games with the Pirates last season and tallied four goals and six assists. We’ll see what they can do tonight.

(Rochester, NY)… The Rochester Americans announced today that the team has signed forward Scott Campbell of the ECHL’s Las Vegas Wranglers and forward Igor Gongalsky of the ECHL’s Gwinnett Gladiators to professional tryouts. Earlier today, forward Marcus Foligno was assigned to the Amerks by the Buffalo Sabres.

Campbell, 25, has appeared in 27 games for Las Vegas this season, recording 16 points (9+7) and 19 penalty minutes to rank fifth on the team in scoring and fourth in goals. He is also tied for the team lead with a +11 rating and leads all rookies in scoring. The 6-foot-2, 210-pound Campbell played four years of collegiate hockey at UMass-Lowell, where he registered 85 points (39+46) in 126 games. Upon the completion of his senior year in 2010-11, Campbell, a native of Navan, Ontatio, joined the AHL’s Houston Aeros and appeared in six games.

Gongalsky, 25, has appeared in 13 games with the AHL’s Portland Pirates this season, where he has recorded one assist and 29 penalty minutes. He has also played in three games with Gwinnett and collected two assists and four penalty minutes. The 6-foot, 225-pound Gongalsky, who attended Amerks training camp in 2010, has appeared in 73 career AHL games with San Antonio and Portland, recording 11 points (4+7) and 115 penalty minutes. In 181 career ECHL games with Fresno, Stockton, Greenville and Gwinnett, the native of Kiev, Ukraine, has collected 109 points (44+65) and 369 penalty minutes.

The Amerks host the Lake Erie Monsters tonight at The Blue Cross Arena at 7:05 p.m. For more information or to purchase tickets, call 1-855-GO-AMERKS or visit www.amerks.com.

Here we are in late December and the offensive side of the Rochester Americans lineup has just about dried up and as of this morning the team is short on players heading into tonights game against the Lake Erie Monsters. Based on the Amerks roster that played on Sunday minus Whitmore and Foligno they have six defensemen, two goalies and ten forwards. The simple math indicates that leaves them two forwards short. As of Tuesday night there was not any news of additions to the roster.

Don Stevens had mentioned on Sunday that Shaone Morrisonn and Joe Finley were out with injuries from that game. Morrisonn was also handed a one game suspension from the American Hockey League for an elbow this past Friday against the San Antonio Rampage. It’s possible that Morrisonn was just sitting the game out ahead of the pending suspension. We should find out sometime today what the status is of Finley and Morrisonn.

There’s often talk about “man games lost” due to injuries on a team and I can’t imagine another team having a number as high as the Rochester Americans right now. The number combined between injuries and call ups (based on my late night math) is at 163 games. The Amerks have only played 29 games this season.

No one could have predicted that the top five in points on the game day roster in late December would be Mark Voakes, Jacob Legace, TJ Brennan, Alex Biega and Phil Varone. Those five players have combined for a lousy 17 goals. Voakes only has two goals all season and Varone only has one. Evan Rankin isn’t in the top five but will be soon. Rankin has only played in 11 games and already has six goals and four assists. Voakes has 15 points in 29 games.

How did the team get to this point? All of the injuries in Buffalo but also the lack of action by Darcy Regier in adding real depth to the Amerks roster. Even when Whitmore, Foligno, Kassian, Stuart, Szczechura, Tropp and McNabb find their way back (if some ever do) there’ll still be issues with the roster. All summer myself and many other Amerks fans pointed out the lack of a deep roster that could put points on the scoreboard and it’s come true. The inevitable injury bug was bound to strike and strike hard it did. Obviously no one could have predicted it’d be this bad but it’s exposed huge holes in the roster that were predicted. Again, even with players bound to return at some point it’s still not the powerhouse roster everyone had wanted and expected.

A user by the name of Kent on the message board in late July had said, “Not only are we complaining about the Sabres not signing another scorer for Rochester but I think we need them to sign someone for Buffalo or we are going to see a heck of a lot of call ups this year. As it is the Amerks roster can’t afford to lose anyone to call up or injury, so now we could be in double trouble.”

That’s exactly what has happened, double trouble.

In late July we heard Darcy Regier say, ”We’re still looking to add some scoring in Rochester, we’ve got quite a bit of depth there. I think if we can add some scoring that’s probably the focal point.”

He never added some scoring. Since the word depth is something that has different meaning to fans of an AHL team compared to that of the NHL parent team I’ll cover both. The “quite a bit of depth” has been true by looking at how well so many players have moved from the Amerks to the Sabres and had an impact on the roster. Their has not been “quite a bit of depth” though because as the call ups have happened and the Sabres have lost so have the Amerks. Both teams are hovering on the brink of a complete disaster of a season.

What’s the solution? Build a deeper team over the summer months when AHL free agents are readily available as depth. A deeper roster of AHL veterans pushes other players down to the ECHL where they should really be playing. The Amerks roster has consisted of players from the first day that were handed roster spots instead of earning them. These guys are busting their chops every night but it’s not helping them develop into the players they could be. Instead of some players working on their scoring in the ECHL they’re struggling to score on top lines in the AHL.

Now that the season is underway the only hope is finding more players like Evan Rankin who can make the jump and be productive, guys like him aren’t easy to find. A couple weeks ago the Amerks called up Rob Bordson who was a leading scorer in the ECHL but in six games he hasn’t produced a point.

Stay tuned to see what player is called upon to fill in on the Amerks roster tonight. At least we’ll get to laugh at a new version of the 12 days of Christmas!

Another day and more players called up to the Buffalo Sabres from the Rochester Americans. The Amerks returned from Texas today and good news awaited Derek Whitmore and Marcus Foligno as both players are on their way to join the Sabres.

Whitmore has played in 272 regular season games between the Portland Pirates and Rochester Americans and will finally get his shot at the show he has worked so hard for. In 29 games this season with the Amerks he has scored 13 goals and tallied seven assists. Whitmore puts everything he has out on the ice night in and night out and will do the same with the Sabres.

Marcus Foligno hopes to make his debut after only 27 games. In the 27 games played with the Amerks he has scored nine goals and tallied three assists. There’s no way that Foligno would have expected to get called up this early in his career but will be thankful for the opportunity. That’s not to say that Foligno wasn’t playing well but with the players above him in depth it just didn’t seem likely.

Assuming Foligno plays he’ll be playing in his first NHL game agains his brother Nick Foligno. Their dad, Mike Foligno, is unemployed after being fired by the Ducks so one would have to assume he’ll be getting up to Ottawa to see his kids play against each other.

Whitmore and Foligno will join Brayden McNabb, Paul Szczechura, Zack Kassian and two players that are injured in Colin Stuart and Corey Tropp. That’s seven players off of the Amerks roster. Unreal.

There’s almost always more than one way to look at a game, especially a loss. You can look at it as being a close game and getting a point on the road is acceptable or you can start to pull your hair out due to frustration at the apparent downhill slide. The Amerks have now lost 10 games by one goal. You could even push that number to 11 since Albany scored an empty net goal on December 4th to win 4-2 so that’s more like a one goal loss than anything else.

One thing that didn’t help the Amerks was that Colin Stuart was called up to the Buffalo Sabres on Friday morning due to Patrick Kaleta not being able to play. They had thought Kaleta would play so everyone went on the road trip. It’ll be interesting to see what kind of flights Stuart had to take to get from San Antonio to Buffalo.

This Rochester Americans team is having to rely on defense and goaltending and unfortunately a defensive turnover by Drew Schiestel is what led to a Bill Thomas breakaway to score the game winner in overtime. There’s very little offense being generated and the only people to blame for that right now are the Buffalo Sabres. They’ve called up Colin Stuart, Paul Szczechura, Zach Kassian, and Corey Tropp and have yet to replace them or the offense that Michael Ryan is supposed to be generating but he can’t since he’s out for who knows how long with who knows what medical condition. Could even point to Matt Ellis and Luke Adam who had originally been slated to spend time in an Amerks uniform but never have.

Phil Varone finally scored his first goal of the season in 27 games played. A recent bright spot has been Evan Rankin who was called up from the ECHL and signed to a PTO and has five goals and three assists in nine games played.

These guys are busting their butts out on the ice trying to win games but they don’t have enough American Hockey League talent on the roster to push past these one goal differentials and win. The Amerks continue to slide lower in the standings and with only two road wins all season and four more road games this month it’s not going to be an easy hill to climb. We’ll see what happens. If they can go on a five game winning streak the tone will obviously change but based on what’s being seen right now they’re lucky the difference isn’t two to three goals or even higher in these losses.

They play again tonight at 8pm against the Texas Stars.

Amerks.com recap:

A late goal by forward Evan Rankin helped secure a point, but the Rochester Americans’ comeback attempt in San Antonio fell short as the Rampage defeated the Amerks 3-2 in overtime at the AT&T Center on Friday night. Former Amerk Bill Thomas capitalized on a breakaway opportunity at 2:12 of the overtime period to give the Rampage the win in Rochester’s first trip to Texas in three seasons.

Phil Varone scored his first professional goal to get the Amerks on the board in the first period and Rankin continued his hot streak, scoring his fifth goal in just his ninth game with the Amerks with under three minutes to go in the third period to tie the game at two and force overtime.

Amerks goaltender Drew MacIntyre was outstanding in net, making 38 saves in the loss. Shaone Morrisonn, T.J. Brennan, Shawn Szydlowski and Dennis Persson each collected an assist in the game for Rochester. Greg Rallo and Keith Seabrook joined Thomas in each netting a goal for the Rampage.

Rallo put the Rampage up 1-0 midway through the first period as he converted on a one-timer from the high slot for his seventh goal of the season at 10:06. With the teams playing 4-on-4, former Amerk Mark Cullen carried the puck into the Rochester zone along the right wing boards and found a trailing Rallo, who finished the play with a blast that beat MacIntyre to the stick side to give San Antonio the early advantage.

The Amerks appeared to tie the game on a goal from Brennan just over a minute later, but referee Mark Lemelin waved the goal off due to a Rochester player leaving the penalty box too early.

Rochester remained focused, however, and would tie the game just 19 seconds later after a goal-mouth scramble led to Varone’s first professional goal. With San Antonio’s Evan Barlow serving a double-minor for high-sticking, the Amerks took advantage of their extended power-play opportunity as Brennan’s shot ricocheted off Rampage goalie Jacob Markstrom’s left pad and somehow averted the net-front traffic on its way to the slot. Varone, with no hesitation, pounced on the puck and beat Markstrom with a low shot just inside the left post for his first of the season. Morrisonn also assisted on the power-play goal at 11:19.

The Rampage regained the lead 14:46 into the second stanza as Seabrook’s wrister from the point eluded a screened MacIntyre and found the back of the net to make it a 2-1 contest. The play started as James Wright found Evgeny Dadonov streaking into the Rochester zone up the middle of the ice, but as Dadonov gained entrance, he left the puck to Seabrook at the blueline and the defenseman’s long shot hit nothing but twine for his first goal of the season.

San Antonio looked to have the game in hand until Rankin made it a 2-2 game as he took Szydlowski’s pass from the left half-wall and picked the right corner over Markstrom’s glove with just 2:19 to play. With Szydlowski stationed along the boards, Rankin made a break to the front of net, received the pass from his linemate and put a perfect shot under the crossbar for his fifth goal of the season. Persson also recorded his first point as an Amerk with an assist on the play.

With the teams playing 4-on-4 in the overtime period, a turnover at the Rochester blueline led to a breakaway opportunity for Thomas, who took a feed from Cullen and skated in alone on MacIntyre and netted the game-winning goal.

Rochester makes its way to Austin on Saturday to take on the Texas Stars at Cedar Park Arena in the first-ever meeting between the interconference rivals. The 8 p.m. EST matchup will be carried live on 107.3 FM and 1280 AM, Rochester’s Sports Talk. The same two teams will meet again later this season as Texas makes its inaugural trip to Western New York on Friday, February 10.

The Amerks have been in need of players and offense and they’ve acquired Rob Bordson on loan from the Trenton Titans in hopes he could be that guy. Bordson is a 23yr old 2nd year pro who plays left wing. In his short career he’s already been traded from the Ducks to the Flyers (along with Danny Syvret for David Laliberte and Patrick Maroon) and then to the Kings (was bundled in the Mike Richards trade). The Kings didn’t offer him a qualifying contract this past summer at which pointed he signed in the fall with the Trenton Titans of the ECHL.

The Amerks will be losing a player, Paul Szczechura has been called up. He was on the ice for the Amerks morning skate but it sounds like someone (maybe Gaustad?) isn’t ready to play in Buffalo.

(gameday notes below)

He’s player that was on the list that Ron Rolston had talked about on Thursday and they’re going to give him a look. Rolston said he looks to have some skills up front that they need and that he’ll be playing. Bordson has been putting up some numbers with Trenton scoring goals and making plays, two places this Amerks team needs assistance. Bordson has a chance to make his mark on the lineup in the same way that Evan Rankin has and stick around longer.

You can’t really tell how a player will be in a game based on practice but watching him during practice this morning he has some speed. If he puts that speed to use and can make some plays he’ll be a positive addition to the lineup.

Here’s an armchair scouting report from Anaheim Calling:

But the kid really showed his chops and playmaking ability on the man advantage, where he and UMD’s plethora of small forwards put together one of the most dangerous power plays in the country.

And that’s where Bordson is most valuable. In open space with great finishers, he’s a skilled playmaker. His talent otherwise, at least at this weight and confidence level, is largely untested, but as a player who has recently recommitted himself to improving his game, you can’t assume he’s done improving.

Gameday notes:

Drew MacIntyre will be starting in net for the Amerks.

Travis Turnbull and Dennis Persson are back in the lineup returning from injuries.

Joe Finley wasn’t at Sabres practice this morning so it’s likely he’s on his way back and could play tonight. Nothing official has been announced but if he wasn’t there he has to be on his way back.

TJ Brennan is not playing but did participate in a full practice with the team which is a good sign in regards to his “upper body injury” or simply UBI as they’re being referred to now.

The Devils will be without Matt Taormina and Alexander Urbom who were called up by the New Jersey Devils this morning.
