Losing Texas Trip Ends Today Against Houston; Stuart Injured and Out a Month

When fans begin to panic there’s often another voice that will say ‘it’s only December’ or ‘there’s still 48 more games to be played’ but things are starting to look very bleak for this Rochester Americans team.  The Amerks were shot down big time by the Texas Stars on Saturday night by the final score of 6-2.  This is the day after they lost in overtime by the score of 3-2.  The game on Sunday evening is against the Houston Aeros, one of the top teams in the league and a team that they lose to earlier this month on home ice.

Things had sounded like they were going in the right direction when the Amerks took an early 2-0 lead with two goals only 30 seconds apart early in the first period against the Stars on Saturday but it was all downhill from there.  The Stars erupted with four goals in the second period and also had a 13-4 advantage in shots in the second period.  This Amerks team had no chance.  Part of that blame can likely be placed on the Sabres who have called up the key parts of this team.  To be a successful team you need to win [...]Read More

Tropp, Szczechura and Brennan Back to the Amerks

Some good news today for the Rochester Americans as Corey Tropp, TJ Brennan and Paul Szczechura were all sent back by the Buffalo Sabres.  The Amerks play against the Houston Aero’s and can use all the talent available.  The Aero’s have only lost three games in regulation, two in overtime and four in a shootout.

The players were sent back today since the Sabres expect Patrick Kaleta, Tyler Ennis and Robin Regehr back into the lineup.  This leaves Brayden McNabb, Zack Kassian and Drew MacIntyre still up with the Buffalo Sabres.

Minus one game back, Corey Tropp has missed nine games with the Amerks since being called up at the beginning of the month.  Brennan has missed three games and Szczechura only missed this past Saturdays game.

Rookie Time Corey Tropp’s First NHL Goal; Sabres Win 6-5

Corey Tropp created an instant highlight reel moment for scoring his first National Hockey League goal at 9:16 of the first period and also receiving a classic Rick Jeanneret call on the play.  Jeanneret bellowed out, “Rookie time rookie time Corey Tropp guns it home, Buffalo has tied it at two.”  The goal was also an important part of the Sabres win against the Jets in overtime, final score was 6-5.

Asked about the gold helmet that Tropp is seen wearing in this picture he said, “They put it on for me.. hopefully I can wear it once more this season or another time in my career.”

The helmet usually doesn’t have a visor on it but someone had one added to it for Tropp.

The journey for Tropp started Friday morning after the Rochester Americans skate when he was told that he wasn’t going to get on the bus with the team to Binghamton.  News had come down that Patrick Kaleta was involved in a disciplinary hearing for that head butt and that he was likely facing a suspension so another player would be needed.

After Amerks practice last Friday morning Tropp said, “They told me that there [...]Read More
