The longest rivalry in the AHL continues as the Bears open up their 75th season at home. The Amerks fell behind by 3 in the second period but made a huge comeback fueled by a 4 for 6 performance on the power play and some awful goaltending by Dany Sabourin (4 goals against, 3 saves in second period). Marcus Foligno had his best night so far as a professional with 2 goals and 2 assists. Cody Hodgson added 3 assists and T.J. Brennan had 2 goals and 1 assist. On the Hershey side, Garrett Stafford had 4 assists and Jeff Taffe had a goal and 3 assists.

Final Score: Amerks 8, Bears 7

Binghamton Senators at Rochester Amerks October 16th Highlights

October 19, 2012 - By

The Binghamton Senators head to Rochester for their first of 8 meetings against the Amerks. The Senators would dictate play all 60 minutes as David Leggio attempted to keep the Amerks in the game with Robin Lehner stopped 32 of 33 shots, most of which being routine saves. Zemgus Girgensons recorded his first point as a professional, an assist on Kevin Porter’s goal. The loss put the Amerks at 1-2-0 on the season.

Video of Amerks Losing 1990 Calder Cup in Game 6

The Rochester Americans reached the Calder Cup finals against the Springfield Indians in 1990 but lost in six games and the highlights of that game are down below.  Looking back it’s hard to imagine at that time there was only 14 teams in the American Hockey League compared to the 30 today.

The Amerks defeated the Utica Devils in the first round of the playoffs and then the Baltimore Skipjacks before reaching the finals of the 1989/1990 season.

Stay tuned, more highlights of the past to come!  Thanks to Kevin (disengage) on the forums for recording and sharing these!!!

Amerks Highlights from Game 6 of the 1987 Calder Cup Finals

There haven’t been that many playoff highlights in recent years for the Rochester Americans but the past is full of them.  Here you’ll find some highlights from game 6 of the 1987 Calder Cup finals between the Amerks and Sherbrooke Canadiens.

Amerks vs Marlies Game 2 Video Highlights

There hasn’t been anything to say about the game two loss that hasn’t been said elsewhere.  If you watched the game you saw the same thing as everyone else. The Marlies were the better team for most of the game.  Rochester found a way to stay in the game like they have with just about all games all season but it wasn’t enough.

The Marlies 4-3 win game them a 2-0 series lead in a best of five first round matchup.

David Leggio gives the Marlies the lead early in Game 2 as Jerry D’Amigo has the whole net to shoot at. Assist to Philippe Dupuis.

A boarding penalty by Philippe Dupuis leads to roughing minors assessed to Travis Turnbull, Colin Stuart, Nicolas Deschamps, and Jerry D’Amigo.

A terrible call on Marcus Foligno leads to a power play goal by Mike Zigomanis. Assists to Jake Gardiner and Joe Colborne.

Amerks Lose in Shootout to the Crunch (with shootout and fight videos)

The Amerks failed to win the game but getting one out of two points against a team not in your conference is better than not getting anything at all.  Rochester had a lot of chances to score goals throughout the second period but continued to hit the posts and give the Crunch too much room and they were able to succeed.  The Amerks had a lead until halfway through the third period Peter Holland scored the tying goal and then Dan Sexton scored the eventual game winner in the shootout.

This game wasn’t lost because the Amerks were without Marcus Foligno, Corey Tropp and Travis Turnbull but because they were inconsistent the whole game.  Those three players certainly would have helped but the game wasn’t lost due to their absence.

Igor Gongalsky and Kyle Kurtz had the only fight of the game at 5:06 of the first period.  There weren’t many punches thrown but the two certainly gave it a shot against each other.  You can see the video here:

Back to the game..

Shaone Morrisonn, Nick Crawford and Brayden McNabb scored the three goals for the Amerks in the 4-3 loss.  Is that a good thing or bad [...]Read More

Video of the Friday Night Crunch Win Over the Amerks

The Amerks had the chance to win on Friday night but a costly turnover, failed power play attempt and a foolish penalty cost them the game.  The Crunch are in the hunt for the playoffs as much as the Amerks are and they took full advantage of every chance in the game.  The game also had a couple of fights with Travis Turnbull vs Ryan O’Marra and TJ Brennan vs Josh Brittain with Joe Finley jumping into the mix as well and squaring off with Matt Smaby.

Paul Szczechura, Evan Rankin and Colin Stuart scored the three goals for the Amerks in the 4-3 loss.  David Leggio finished the game with 31 saves.

The loss drops the Amerks back into 10th place in the current standings for their playoff push but still only three points away from fourth in the Western Conference.

The Amerks continue their weekend road trip tonight in Binghamton.

Video Highlights of Amerks 3-1 Win Over the Senators

The Amerks need every win they can get and continued to do that on Friday night with a 3-1 win over the Binghamton Senators to move into eighth place, at least for the time being.  Paul Szczechura, Luke Adam and Derek Whitmore are three players the Amerks need to rely on for scoring and they did just that scoring Friday night for the win.

There’s 16 regular season games left and every game and every point counts with only six points separating 3rd place and 11th place in the Western Conference.  The same two teams play again tonight and even though the Binghamton Senators are in last place they are not a team to be taken for granted.  As long as the Amerks play the same way they did on Friday night they should finish the weekend with four points.

Video Highlights from Amerks Shootout Win Over the Marlies

The Amerks won their second game in a row on Sunday against the Toronto Marlies in a home and home series.  The two games gave the Amerks a much needed four points in the standings and also proved again that they can compete with the best when they want to.  The videos below feature fights, hits and the goals scored.  Thanks to Kevin Wright / Disengage for capturing and uploading the videos!

The team will now prepare for back to back home games this Friday and Saturday against the Binghamton Senators, last seasons Calder Cup champions who are now in last place in the league.

T.J. Brennan and Ryan Hamilton throw down the mitts after a big hit by Brennan.

Travis Turnbull fights Marcel Mueller.

Derek Whitmore chases down his own dump in and lands a big check on Jesse Blacker. The TV broadcast does no justice to how loud the hit was in the arena.

Alex Biega banks a loose puck in the crease right into David Leggio’s ass and into the goal for the first goal of the game. This could be the Amerks’ blooper of the year.
