Amerks lose to Syracuse 4-3

(Oswego, NY – September 30)… The Rochester Americans dropped their preseason finale today, 4-3, to the Syracuse Crunch at the Oswego State Campus Center Ice Arena. The Amerks ended the preseason with a 1-2-0-0 record.Rochester got three second-period goals from Martin Lojek, Mike Card and Drew Larman. Rookie Tyler Plante made his first preseason start in goal for Rochester and made 14 saves. Forward Kamil Kreps, who was assigned to Rochester today, did not make the trip.Syracuse got a stellar effort in goal as Tomas Popperle made 37 saves. Jeffrey Szwez led the Crunch with one goal and one assist. Geoff Platt netted the game-winner at the 13:00 mark of the second period.Syracuse opened the game with a 2-0 lead as Chanse Fitzpatrick and Szwez scored first-period goals.Rochester tied the game with goals by Lojek and Crad early in the second period. The Crunch, however, regained the lead on a short-handed goal by Andrew Murray at 5:33. The Amerks evened the score at three at 9:28 on a goal by Larman. Syracuse answered midway through the period as Platt scored on the power play for a 4-3 advantage.Popperle made the score holdup as he made 15 saves in the second period and eight in the third.

The Amerks open their 52nd season in the American Hockey League against the Syracuse Crunch. Prior to the game, the team will hold a block party at 5:00 p.m. Faceoff is set for 7:35 p.m. at The Blue Cross Arena.
