Coming From Behind, Amerks Last Week of February in Review

We have a lot to catch up on with the Rochester Americans over the past week so we’re going to get everyone up to speed in one post, in case you have not been paying attention.  We spent our week improving the offices of Lets Go Amerks and a night out at the Cystic Fibrosis dinner.

Here we go…

* Starting with last Sunday, the Toronto Marlies defeated the Amerks by the final score of 6-2.  The Marlies were beat 3-1 the day before by the Amerks in Toronto, so the Marlies came out angry and never let up.  Game Summary

* Luke Beaverson and Andrew Sweetland were assigned to the Florida Everblades on Wednesday afternoon.  Sweetland had played in 40 games for the Amerks and only tallied two assists and 10 penalty minutes.  Beaverson had played in 14 games for the Amerks and got on the scoresheet with one assist and 21 penalty minutes.

* The Cystic Fibrosis Annual Celebrity Waiter Dinner & Auction was on Wednesday night at Blue Cross Arena.  The Amerks and Knighthawks teamed up for this years fundraiser.  Over the past 18 years, the Amerks have raised over $650,000 for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation of Rochester.

* Andrew Sweetland rejoined the Amerks on Thursday after playing in one game with the Florida Everblades.  Sweetland had three assists on the four goals scored by the Everblades in that one game.

* Judd Blackwater was signed to a PTO by Rochester on Friday and arrived in time to play in Hamilton.  In nine games this season with the Rockford IceHogs he had scored three goals.  He’s also played in 30 games for the Fresno Falcons of the ECHL prior to the team folding where he scored five goals and nine assists.  When the team folded he also spent time with the Stockton Thunder where he scored two goals and five assists.

* The Amerks travelled to Hamilton on Friday and defeated the Hamilton Bulldogs by the final score of 4-1.  David Desharnais scored first for Hamilton in the 2nd period.  Karl Stewart tied the game about 10 minutes later.  The Amerks had three goals in the third to take a commanding lead and win the game.  Mike Duco scored twice and Shawn Matthias followed with the Amerks 4th goal.  Game Summary

* Rory Fitzpatrick returned on Friday after missing two games with a knee injury.  He sat out Saturdays game but returned on Sunday.

* Janis Sprukts joined the ranks of injured Amerks on Friday night when he left the game with a shoulder injury.

* Jarret Lukin was signed to a PTO on Saturday.  Lukin has led the Dayton Bombers of the ECHL this season with 20 goals.  He also has 23 assists for 43 overall points and 24 penalty minutes.

* Saturday saw the Amerks travel to face the Binghamton Senators, a team they have not had very much luck against.  The Amerks played catch up all night but stayed in the game.  The final score was 4-3 in favor of Binghamton who won the game with a power play goal at 8:44 of the third period.  Game Summary

Which leads to the home game on Sunday night against the Binghamton Senators which is coming up in the next post!
