Amerks Sign Colt King; Some More Muscle

Updated: The Rochester Americans announced today that they signed Colt King to a two way AHL contract. He adds some much needed depth to this team.

King has spent his career so far in the CHL, ECHL, and UHL. He consistely puts points on the scoreboard along with penalty minutes.

According to HockeyDB.com through 17 games this season King has 12 goals, 7 assists, and 58 penalty minutes.

I’m sure his pugilist skills interested someone a little more than his offensive skills. He plays a physical game and has been able to put points on the board as well. King has always had impressive numbers so it will be interesting to see if he can continue at a higher level.

Here’s a preseason fight between King and Time Spencer –

With three straight games coming up against the Abbotsford Heat they may need the extra toughness. The Heat lead the AHL with a whopping 759 penalty minutes. By comparison the Amerks have 462.

With Jimmy Bonneau, Steve MacIntyre, and now Colt King in the lineup I think we can expect some fireworks this weekend.

I had thought if needed James DeLory would get some playing time since he was assigned here but that has not been the case.

  1. This comment was originally made by Dave Newton but I accidentally deleted it…

We started the season as a speed team, built on running the puck up ice around the forecheck. Now after we find a winning design for this team they decide to change to over powering the forecheck. Not sure if this a good move or bad. If it works it will show the Amerks have a diverse offense from which to choose, but failure could put our “smaller and faster” skaters into situations that make them very vunerable to alot more punishment from checks, due to slower play. This type of failure could result in the “i” word that has not been too bad an issue this season, thank Heaven. Undecided i am, will wait with baited breath.
